Job Description

The Department of Public Health/Tewksbury State Hospital is currently seeking a motivated Environmental Service Specialist II to work for the Environmental Services Department. The selected candidates will supervise and actively participate in the cleaning and maintenance of the hospital facility and campus support programs, including project work, move requests and setting up patient rooms/offices and other miscellaneous areas.

Environmental Service Specialist II actively participates in the cleaning of the main healthcare facility and campus support programs. They provide supervision to EVS staff as assigned by EVS Supervisor and/or EVS Director.

• Supervises EVS employees, as assigned.

• Cleans floors by sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, etc. using appropriate supplies and equipment.

• Clean interior surfaces such as walls, windows, stainless steel, porcelain, tile, etc. by dusting, polishing, and washing, using appropriate supplies and equipment.

• Clean toilets, lavatories, utility room, mop closets, etc. using appropriate supplies and equipment to maintain the appearance, cleanliness, and sanitation in all areas.

• Empties waste receptacles and disposes of regular, recyclable, chemo, RAD and other medical waste following established departmental policies/procedures and governing agency regulations/laws.

• Transport soiled linen to soiled holding area.

• Participates in the pick-up and distribution of linen exchange carts to patient care units/ancillary departments.

• Clean patient beds, side tables, over bed tables, fans etc., using appropriate supplies and equipment, to maintain appearance, cleanliness, and sanitation of such items.

• Cleans and remakes beds following departmental policies/procedures.

• Strip, refinish and buff floors utilizing heavy equipment.

• Shampoos carpetsand upholstery cleaning utilizing industrial equipment.

Based on assignment may:

• Clean, sanitize and maintain all hospital areas.

• Stocks EVS closets with cleaning supplies/chemicals following departmental processes.

• Clean and maintain cleanliness and appearance of all floors in the facility.

• Move and/or set up furniture in preparation for special functionsand patient care unit moves.

• Clean and maintain stairwells, elevators, and cross-corridors using appropriate equipment and supplies.

• Cleaning of other buildings on Campus as assigned.

• Attends in-services as appropriate to position and department responsibilityincluding all mandatory training and annual Hospital Wide Challenge exams.

• Maintain records or logs on assigned unit activities.

• Provide on-the-job training and orientation to employees.

• Examine completed work to ensure compliance with quality standards.

• Documentation and completion of forms as required by supervisor.

Qualifications

Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in building custodial or institution housekeeping work.
