About the Team
The E-commerce Governance and Experience team is a global group dedicated to making our marketplace a safe, reliable, and high-quality environment for all users, sellers, and creators. Our work focuses on establishing policies, systems, and standards to maintain an excellent experience across the platform.
We are seeking a proactive and skilled professional to serve as the Head of Governance and Experience for the Americas. In this senior role, you will be responsible for advancing the safety, trustworthiness, and quality of TikTok Shop across regions. This role requires a strategic and forward-thinking approach to lead policy creation, risk management, seller and creator governance, customer experience, external relations, brand protection, intellectual property rights (IPR), and cross-functional collaboration across key functions, including Engineering, Product, Public Relations, Government Relations, and Business Operations.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in marketplaces, e-commerce, and product or program development, with a strong foundation in driving complex initiatives and providing informed governance insights. You should have a proven track record in building and guiding high-performing teams, as well as experience working across regions to adapt global policies to meet local needs-always putting user satisfaction and trust at the forefront.
What You'll Do
- Core Governance and Policy Development
- Lead the creation and implementation of governance frameworks to manage the platform's operations.
- Develop policies that regulate seller and creator behavior, content standards, and compliance to ensure the platform's integrity.
- Lead go-to-market efforts, including seller and creator education.
- Risk Management
- Identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with content, data privacy, regulatory compliance, and other potential threats to the platform.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop strategies for risk reduction and incident response.
- Customer Experience
- Establish seamless and user-centered policies to support customers.
- Oversee financial controls to ensure accountability and transparency.
- Brand and External Relations
- Lead proactive monitoring programs to minimize IPR risks (e.g., counterfeit, copycat) across product scenarios, such as listings, accounts, and content.
- Guide teams in responding to, investigating, managing, and resolving high-impact brand-related incidents and escalations related to IPR issues.
- Develop strategies to enhance TikTok Shop's reputation and establish it as a leader in e-commerce with regulators and regulatory bodies.
- Measure and analyze seller and creator sentiment to inform policies.
- Cross-functional Collaboration
- Partner closely with internal teams, including Operations, Product, Government Relations, Public Relations, Legal, Compliance, Trust & Safety, and Engineering, to ensure that policies align with business goals and regulatory requirements.
- Act as a key decision-maker and influencer to drive cross-functional alignment and manage competing priorities.
- Leadership and Team Development
- Lead and mentor senior leaders in governance, risk, and compliance roles, supporting teams across multiple regions and countries.
- Cultivate a "one team" mindset that fosters collaboration across cultures and countries.
- Promote a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement within the team.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Proven expertise in marketplaces, e-commerce, or business development, with a deep understanding of platform operations, user engagement, and seller management.
- Strong background in product or program management, with the ability to drive complex, cross-functional projects and provide governance insights to guide platform decisions.
- Demonstrated leadership in governance frameworks, risk management, or compliance, especially in dynamic or regulated industries.
- Skilled at working across diverse teams, including Product, Legal, Trust & Safety, and Government Relations, to align policies with business goals and adapt global standards to meet regional needs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team, supporting senior leaders while fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Bachelor's degree required; an advanced degree is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a dynamic and evolving environment.

Job Information
[For Pay Transparency] Compensation Description (annually)
The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $181830 - $400000 annually.
Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.
Benefits may vary depending on the nature of employment and the country work location. Employees have day one access to medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) savings plan with company match, paid parental leave, short-term and long-term disability coverage, life insurance, wellbeing benefits, among others. Employees also receive 10 paid holidays per year, 10 paid sick days per year and 17 days of Paid Personal Time (prorated upon hire with increasing accruals by tenure).
