Job Description

We are looking for a highly skilled Sales Director with extensive industry relationships and strong managerial expertise to lead revenue and partnership strategies in the consumer, finance, auto, entertainment, and international sectors. Based in either DC or NY, this role will require a seasoned professional with deep connections across these industries, a track record of managing high-performing teams, and the ability to build and execute impactful advertising strategies.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead and mentor a high-performing sales team, providing guidance on strategy, client engagement, and revenue growth.
  • Set clear performance expectations, track progress, and provide ongoing coaching and development to ensure success.
  • Foster a collaborative and results-driven culture, encouraging advertising and media solutions innovation.

  • Leverage extensive industry relationships to develop high-value partnerships with key decision-makers, including CMOs, agency leads, and media buyers.
  • Maintain and expand a robust network of clients and industry influencers within consumer, finance, auto, entertainment, and international sectors.
  • Act as a trusted advisor, identifying client needs and delivering customized, data-driven advertising solutions that align with business objectives.
Strategic Growth & Business Development
  • Develop and implement a long-term strategy for revenue growth, ensuring The Washington Post remains a preferred media partner.
  • Identify new market opportunities, trends, and emerging platforms to drive innovation in advertising offerings.
  • Collaborate with internal teams-including editorial, marketing, and data analytics-to align ad solutions with audience insights and content strategies.
Qualifications & Skills
  • 10+ years of experience in media sales, business development, or advertising, with a strong emphasis on client relationship management.
  • Proven leadership experience, including managing, mentoring, and developing sales teams.
  • Extensive existing relationships and a strong network within the consumer, finance, auto, entertainment, and international industries.
  • Deep understanding of digital advertising, branded content, programmatic sales, and data-driven marketing solutions.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to drive strategy and execute in a fast-paced environment.
The Washington Post's policy for employees is five days per week in the office, with exceptions for newsgathering and general business travel.

Benefits may vary based on the job, full-time or part-time schedule, location, and collectively bargained status.

The salary range for this position is:
144,480.00 - 268,320.00 USD Annual

The actual salary within this range will depend on individual skills, experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements. This position may be eligible for a bonus or incentive program, and a member of the Talent Acquisition team will discuss bonus payment terms and conditions during the interview process.
