Job Description
As the General Manager - Legal at Thermo Fisher Scientific, you'll have the chance to shape legal strategy and execution in a leading organization. Your expertise will play a vital role in our mission to make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a strategic member of the team supporting the businesses in India.
- Counsel business teams on a range of legal matters, including commercial contracts, lease of immovable properties, business law, Competition Law, Legal Metrology, IP, compliance, anti-corruption, FCPA issues, regulatory matters, Drugs and Cosmetics Act compliance, and Drugs and medical devices Marketing Laws.
- Interact with government officials on taxation and customs-related issues and industry groups, ensuring ongoing compliance with local regulatory requirements.
- Provide special expertise in Make in India regulations, Drugs and Cosmetics Laws, Legal Metrology, Insolvency and Bankruptcy laws, Manufacturing & Factories Laws, and data privacy laws.
- Handle sophisticated litigations, labor issues, employee issues, and advise on disciplinary actions.
- Ensure sound legal judgment to facilitate business strategy and execution while applying effective risk management techniques.
- Liaise with local authorities on regulatory, statutory, and other aspects, providing general legal advice to business teams, finance, brand protection, and corporate investigations.
- Exhibit a proven understanding of commercial contracts, including technology sales, distributor/agency agreements, license, and services agreements.
- Negotiate, draft, solidify, and review agreements in an agile and fast-paced environment.
- Balance priorities and risk with business benefits.

Qualification, Skills, Knowledge and Experience
- Bachelor's/Master's degree in law or equivalent experience from an outstanding institute in India, and an Associate Company Secretary from the Institute of Company Secretaries.
- 15+ years of law experience with either a law firm or as in-house counsel, with at least 10 years preferred in-house.
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of corporate laws and procedures.
- Substantial organizational skills and strong attention to detail, with a consistent track record of prioritizing multiple tasks efficiently and optimally.
- Strong sense of ethics and integrity.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work and manage in a high-energy, fast-paced environment.
- Team-oriented with strong interpersonal and communication skills, comfortable working in dynamic and diverse multinational teams.
- Self-motivated and driven to succeed, with a high level of initiative and the ability to lead and work autonomously.
- Stay updated on changes in legislation and regulations in the country that may impact business.
- Strong problem-solving, presentation, and influencing skills.
