Job Description:

Department Overview:

TD Securities Corporate and Investment Banking provides a full range of financial advisory and capital-raising services to corporate and institutional clients globally. Our relationship managers work closely with our clients to understand their needs and bring them unique solutions to complex issues. The department is organized into areas of expertise by product, region, and industry.

The Business Management team within Corporate and Investment Banking is responsible for providing ongoing strategic and operational support, as well as supervisory oversight, to investment bankers and senior executives within the department, enabling them to focus on providing optimal client coverage and execution. The team liaises with various TD Securities and TD Bank Group partners to advance the needs of the department and implement firm-wide initiatives.

Position Overview:

The investment banking environment is demanding and requires a self-starting, efficient person, who works extremely well in a team, can manage multiple priorities at the same time, and thrives in a fast-paced and often intense culture.

In this role you will be a member of the Business Management team within Corporate and Investment Banking. You will report to the Managing Director, Corporate Investment Banking Business Management and work in close partnership with investment banking and capital markets teams to manage their operational activities and advance their business strategies. You will also partner closely with the broader business manager team to execute various deliverables and initiatives.

Key Accountabilities:

More specifically, the role will require you to:

  • Act as a trusted advisor to your assigned teams, assisting in the development and implementation of the groups' business strategies and plans.
  • Influence and negotiate with internal teams to support group heads in achieving their business objectives.
  • Understand and help manage the teams' deal pipelines.
  • Resolve issues and eliminate obstacles by working in partnership with the broader business management team and other internal partners in technology, compliance, legal, HR, and finance.
  • Drive business priorities, including client targeting and coverage plans, and leverage internal CRM systems to support deal pipeline management.
  • Understand and manage key financial performance metrics for the team including but not limited to revenue forecasts, expense management and overall efficiency ratios.
  • Understand the three lines of defense model, be familiar with the relevant regulatory landscape, and support the CIB Business Supervision center of excellence to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, as well as business policies and processes.
  • Work with the CIB Colleague center of excellence to identify and fill team-specific resourcing and training needs.

Specific Accreditations and Experience:

  • FINRA Series 79 license (or commitment to obtain within four months)

TD Securities Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB) provides a full range of financial advisory and capital-raising services to corporate and institutional clients. Our relationship managers work closely with clients to understand their needs and bring them unique solutions to complex issues. The department is organized into areas of expertise by industry, product, and region.

The Business Management team within CIB provides ongoing operational and strategic support, as well as supervisory oversight, to relationship managers and senior executives so they may focus on providing optimal client coverage. The team works extensively with numerous TDS and TDBG support functions to advance the needs of CIB and assists with the rollout of numerous firm and bank-wide initiatives.

Depth & Scope:

  • Provides people management leadership by hiring the best talent, setting goals, developing staff, managing employee performance and compensation decisions, promoting teamwork and handling any/all disciplinary actions, as required
  • Oversees the development and execution of strategic planning for unit
  • Oversees program and project level forecasting and tracking
  • Directs the communication of financial policies and procedures
  • Manages monthly forecasting and client chargeback process
  • Oversees the annual budget process
  • Manages the headcount / resource process
  • Leads and oversees the end-to-end delivery of requirements throughout the lifecycle of large scale/complex projects or programs requiring a cohesive approach to broad business solutions with full traceability to realize project benefits
  • Provides advisory support, leadership direction and guidance to assigned Business Analyst resources, stakeholders and executives of the projects and/or program across multiple Lines of Business (LoB)

Education & Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree in Business (Accounting or Finance) or Mathematics/ Economics
  • Bachelors degree or progressive work experience in addition to experience below
  • 7+ Years of related experience
  • Strong project management skills
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal and relationship-building skills are required
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills in particular Excel
  • Presentation skills required
  • Strong team player and who can work in cross-organization situations
  • Highly effective written and oral communication skills; excellent organizational skills
