As an IP Paralegal Assistant in Schneider Electric's Global IP Team, you will join a talented and collaborative group of in-house legal and technical professionals to support the company's global patent and design portfolio data management. The role will report to Sr. IP Counsel within the Patent Portfolio Development Team (PPD) to do patent and design docketing, legal operations, invoice processing and administrative tasks.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Docketing & data management
  • Manage an in-house global patent and design docket, including but not limited to creating new matters, docketing incoming and outgoing correspondence, uploading documents, verifying deadlines, closing matters, and generating patent and design status reports.
  • Coordinate and prepare filings at national, regional and international IP offices.
  • Review incoming correspondence from World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), European Patent Office (EPO), European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), national patent offices and/or outside counsel regarding status of national, regional and international applications.
  • Manage patent and design deadlines. Ensure that deadlines are respected by in-house team, inventors, and outside counsel.
  • Implement legal operations initiatives to develop patent and design data management processes.
  • Manage and validate data integrity and docket management configuration.

  • EPO, WIPO, EUIPO and national patent and design filing
  • Prepare and file patent applications, design registration applications, office action responses, inventor declarations, extensions of time, petitions, assignments, official fee payment sheets, application data sheets and other submissions.
  • Prepare and record formal documents, including declarations, powers of attorney and name changes including arranging preparation, execution, notarization, legalization and apostille of the foregoing documents.
  • Conduct quality review of patent and design documentation to detect and resolve inaccuracies.
  • Communicate with inventors to collect information related to patent and design applications.


  • General
  • Invoice processing and coordination.
  • Correspondence with outside counsel.
  • Maintain current legal knowledge of patent and design procedures.
  • Provide IP support for projects, as required.
  • Perform IP research on public and private databases.


Qualifications
  • 2+ years' experience as an IP paralegal
  • Bachelor's degree and/or paralegal qualifications
  • Experience in international IP law, docketing, and the filing and prosecution processes in the EPO, WIPO and/or EUIPO
  • Experience with patent and design portfolio management databases and data integrity resolution
  • Proficiency with MS Office, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and Teams

  • Strong organizational and project management skills with an attention to detail.
  • Friendly collaborative communication and interpersonal skills, oral and written, that suit a diverse and inclusive culture within a multinational organization.
  • Strong analytic skills to identify data integrity concerns, evaluate associated risk and clearly summarize complex topics and needs.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, deadlines, and risks.
  • Ability to learn new tasks quickly and work independently or as a part of a team.
  • Proficiency in English (oral & written).


Preferences
  • 1+ years' experience in a corporate environment.
  • Expertise with IP office online filing tools including MyEPO, ePCT and EUIPO.
  • Proficiency with Unycom and/or Thompson Legal Tracker.
  • Experience in data migration of IP portfolios.
