The Director of Corporate Legal Services holds a pivotal role in ensuring seamless integration between legal and business operations through the lens of corporate governance. This position requires a visionary leader who can not only envision the legal operations of the organization effectively but also align them closely with the overarching business strategy. A core aspect of this role involves cultivating a culture of performance and accountability across the organization. The incumbent will lead by example, championing best practices in corporate governance and fostering an environment where excellence is the norm.

Responsibilities:
- Oversee the corporate services legal function at RWE, including supporting the Board of Directors and executive leadership team, corporate governance, legal operations, and strong involvement with preventative law and dispute resolution
- Lead and develop a corporate services legal team, passionate about delivering legal & functional excellence
- Ensure proper corporate governance structures and advise on best practices
- Remain up-to-date and ensure compliance with corporate laws, rules, and regulations
- Develop, maintain, advise, and provide training on, policies, procedures, and controls to ensure corporate governance
- Collaborate across legal, compliance, accounting, risk, and technology functions to develop systems and process solutions to govern, report on, and improve the operation of the company's legal activities
- Support path to building Legal team effectiveness and efficiencies through the legal operations function. This includes delivering technology and processes that streamline process management, spend management, legal vendor management, contract management, litigation, policy/SLA, and knowledge management
- Develop strategies to minimize legal risks and address potential legal issues before they escalate
- Oversee review of corporate contractual agreements, including but not limited to corporate service, HR, insurance, EHS related contracts
- Deliver advisory services to support strategic business initiatives
Qualifications:
- Juris doctorate degree required
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in corporate legal affairs, with at least 5 years in a senior management role
- Proven track record in overseeing corporate governance and legal operations within a corporate environment
- Work experience in a top-tier law firm and/or in-house legal department, including a combination of relevant experience as a practicing attorney counseling clients with a proven track record of impactful client and customer relationships, and demonstrated efficiency and effectiveness
- Experience in managing complex legal matters and litigation

- You have experience working with company clients on reporting obligations and corporate governance
- You possess confidence and gravitas, capable of working both autonomously and as part of a cross-disciplinary and global team
- You are analytical and a creative problem solver
- You are proactive, organized, and pay attention to detail
- You are intellectually curious, engaged, and humble (no task is too big or too small)
- This position will reside at RWE's office in Austin, TX or Chicago, IL
