What you will do

As the Vice President, Data Science Lead for PGIM you play a pivotal role in shaping and executing PGIM's data-driven strategy in close collaboration with the Chief Data Office. You will partner with other enterprise data science teams, cross-functional teams, data engineers, data analysts and business specialists to shape the future of PGIM's data landscape. This role leads data scientists in the development of advanced analytics and data driven insights to significantly elevate business outcomes. You will implement capabilities to solve meaningful business problems using generative AI, statistical models and machine learning techniques.

As an expert in data science and analytics, you will bring excellent problem solving, communication and teamwork skills, along with agile ways of working, strong business insight, and an inclusive leadership attitude to all that you do.

This role is based in our office in Newark, NJ. Our organization follows a hybrid work structure where employees can work remotely and/ from the office, as needed, based on demands of specific tasks or personal work preferences. This position is hybrid and requires your on-site presence on a reoccurring weekly basis 2 days per week.

What you can expect

  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of advanced analytical solutions to complex business problems that generate measurable outcomes within PGIM.
  • Develop pragmatic solutions to custom business problems through effective implementation of LLMs, statistical models and machine learning. Design, support and actively guide performing thorough statistical analysis of structured and unstructured data with the ability to bring right data techniques in an explainable manner to business teams.
  • Serve as a thought leader to business partners, identifying opportunities to use AI to transform processes to drive business value.
  • Lead strategic external partnerships to supplement internal capabilities in the execution of parts of the data science development process.
  • Bring a deep understanding of relevant and emerging technologies, give technical direction to team members and embed learning and innovation in the day-to-day.
  • Work on significant and unique issues where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of intangible variables and may impact future concepts, products or technologies.
  • Develop and grow relationships with PGIM businesses as key stakeholders. Build in-depth knowledge of business success drivers, industry trends, regulatory issues, and the competitive marketplace to develop value added business solutions.
  • Leverage strong oral and written communication skills to drive business transformation and data science adoption. Articulate insights, opportunities, and analytical outcomes clearly and persuasively to audiences at all levels of the organization.
  • Contribute to the transformation of the culture at Prudential from a product-centric to a customer-centric orientation, especially by improving the data and analytics environment overall.
  • Attract and nurture talent to maintain competitive advantage in fast changing data science ecosystem.
  • As a member of the Chief Data Office Leadership Team, contribute meaningfully to Prudential's data and AI capability, globally.

What you will bring

  • Master's Degree or PhD in a quantitative discipline, including Math, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, and Engineering, or equivalent training and professional experience.
  • Experience in applying generative AI, modeling/data science principles in financial industry with knowledge across multiple financial products.
  • Ability to lead independently with minimal guidance and effectively leverage diverse ideas, experiences, thoughts and perspectives to the benefit of the organization.
  • Prior experience with building/fine tuning LLMs, statistical models, analyzing unstructured data, and/or machine learning for asset management and capital markets is highly desirable.
  • Proven experience in leading and managing high-performing data science teams.
  • Expert communication skills, including the ability to translate ideas into compelling business cases, reports, and oral and written presentations to multiple levels of the organization, including senior leadership.
  • Proven relationship building and collaboration skills; ability to influence and drive outcomes in large, complex organizations.
  • Strong quantitative skills with deep knowledge of mathematics, statistics, and computer science at the foundation of data science.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, persistence, and resilience; comfort with and ability to thrive on and drive change while navigating ambiguity.

Deep expertise with several of the following:

  • Data Acquisition and Transformation: Acquiring data from disparate data sources using API's, SQL and NoSQL. Transform data using SQL, NoSQL, and Python. Visualizing data using a diverse tool set including but not limited to Python and R
  • Database Management System: Knowledge of how databases are structured and function in order to use them efficiently may include multiple data environments, scalar and vector DBs, table design, database schemas, etc.
  • Prompt Engineering: Effective prompt creation, prompt chaining and prompt flows to customize LLMs for custom business solutions
  • Statistics and Computing: Exceptional understanding of: Calculus, Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, Probability, Statistics, Applied Probability, Applied Statistics, Computer Science (Programming Methodologies), and Cloud. Knowledge of statistical techniques such as the use of descriptive, inferential, Bayesian statistics, time series analysis etc. to extract business insights and experimentation to solve business problems
  • Data Wrangling: Preparing data for further analysis; Redefining and mapping raw data to generate insights; Processing of large datasets (structured, unstructured)
  • Data Visualization: Knowledge of data visualization standard methodologies, including how to select visualizations appropriate to the data and the data story. Advanced data visualization techniques using Power BI is highly desirable.
  • Strategy: Ability to formulate original long-term and short-term strategies for achieving business outcomes. Ability to frame strategies in the form of incremental business value backed by pragmatic needs

Note: Prudential is required by state specific laws to include the salary range for this role when hiring a resident in applicable locations. The salary range for this role is from $240,000 to $280,000. Specific pricing for the role may vary within the above range based on many factors including geographic location, candidate experience, and skills. Roles may also be eligible for additional compensation and/or benefits. Eligibility to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program is subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
