Location: Beachwood, OH. or Remote for the right person

Position Summary:

As a Data Science Manager, you will drive the development and implementation of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligent solutions for Penske next-generation Supply Chain & Logistics products. With a robust background in data science and industry experience with machine learning, coding, and cloud computing systems, your role will be instrumental in establishing and advancing Penske's predictive analytics capabilities, particularly at the enterprise level.

As a Data Science Manager, you will simultaneously help your team navigate multiple projects, each of significant scale and complexity, with potential organization-wide impact. You will be expected to assess the project feasibility from a data and technical perspective, define the project scope, guide the formulation of an appropriate approach, facilitate execution, and provide timely updates on progress. In leading your team, you will serve as a mentor to less experienced data scientists, guiding them towards professional growth and instilling a culture of best practices within the team. Success in this role involves extensive cross-functional collaboration with customers, vendors, and suppliers.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Build, mentor, and lead a team of data scientists, fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous learning and adding business value.
  • Guide the team in developing predictive models, machine learning algorithms, and data-driven solutions to complex business challenges.
  • Oversee the design, development, and implementation of data science projects, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with business needs.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including IT, product and operations, to integrate data science solutions into workflows and decision-making processes.
  • Communicate findings and insights to executive leadership and stakeholders, translating complex data concepts into actionable recommendations.

Qualifications

  • Masters in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or related field. PhD preferred
  • 5+ years of experience working as a senior-level data scientist and 1+ years of experience with working in a manager/leader role. Logistics industry experience preferred
  • Technically proficient – Programming in Python, experienced with cloud platform and services such as Azure Databricks and Snowflake, as well as data visualization tools
  • Excellent presentation, verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong ability to collaborate with different functional teams and stakeholders with both tech and non-tech backgrounds.
  • Familiarity with MLOps or other development practices exhibiting success in delivering production ready, well documented solutions will be considered a significant asset, although not strictly required.
  • Ability to lead team and manage a wide range of projects in a fast-paced environment
