Department Profile

The Fixed Income Division is comprised of Interest Rate and Currency Products, Commodities and Credit Products. Professionals in the Division assess and actively manage risk, trade securities, and structure as well as execute innovative transactions in the fast-paced and constantly changing global markets. The Commodities Department is a market leader in energy, metals, and agricultural product trading worldwide whose professional's actively trade in derivative commodity risk and participate in select physical commodity markets.

Background on the Team

Morgan Stanley's Asia Commodity Sales team is headquartered in Singapore and provides services to clients across Asia and Oceania. The team is organized into energy and non-energy sales.

Responsibilities
• This role will require the individual to support the Commodity Sales team on a wide array of tasks ranging from financial modelling and pitch books to trade booking, market commentary, client onboarding, KYC, and administrative matters. The successful candidate must be able to work well as a member of a diverse and multifunctional team, collaborate with colleagues in other regions, be flexible with working hours, work well under pressure, communicate clearly, and be able to manage their workflow optimally.
• Book client trades into risk systems on behalf of executing salesperson.
• Financial modelling of proposed client transactions and crafting corresponding pitch books for both external and internal audiences.
• Collaborate with sales, trading, trade support, settlements, and trade confirmation teams across different locations as required to resolve operational trade-related issues that may arise from time to time.
• Prepare periodic market commentary and client trading activity recap for management (e.g., weekly / biweekly).
• Run indicative price spreadsheet(s) and send daily indicative price runs to clients, adhering to established process guidelines.
• Actively monitor client chats, market levels, and stay informed of relevant industry and market news to add maximum value to the business.
• Perform trade modelling and analysis (e.g., PE95 / credit risk exposures, RWA and ROE calculations), and assist sales with large / complex trade escalation and approval processes.
• Run correlation and statistical analysis across different products and assist in the routine and ad-hoc preparation of pitch books and market reports.
• Act as the central point-of-contact on and be accountable for the completion of client requests for information (e.g., KYC), liaising with various internal teams (e.g., Legal and Compliance) to gather information and complete the requesting client's diligence forms.
• Support the client onboarding process, collaborating with various internal teams including Business Control Unit, ISDA documentation, Global Financial Crimes, and KYC.
• Provide effective back-up to the Commodities Onboarding Lead, assist with maintenance of the onboarding tracker, and prepare presentation materials for internal governance review of new client opportunities (e.g., Client Selection Committee).

Skills desired
• Sharp presentation (Power Point), financing modelling and Excel skills
• Keep level-headed under pressure when items pile up within a short time.
• Collaboration and inclusive teamwork. Ability to reach out and connect with a broad spectrum of internal teams to deliver one firm to the client franchise.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills: Communicate clearly with internal and external clients across the region, providing them best in class support. Communicate clearly via phone or chat to teams in Singapore and Tokyo remotely daily.
• Commodities product knowledge obtained via internship / work experience at a commodities firm or bank is a plus.
• Proficiency in Power-Point and Excel is essential. Excel VBA coding skills a plus.

Coverage for Audit Jobs
• Monday to Friday from 12:00PM to 9:00PM India time with flexibility on standard working hours for time sensitive matters.
• Periodic evening calls with US and EMEA Internal Auditors and auditees.
