Leidos is looking for a Senior Systems Engineer with strong working knowledge of network engineering to be part of a dynamic team responsible for supporting a large virtual environment that enables mission-critical systems and operations. This position requires a systems engineer who can provide technical expertise and oversight in a Tier 3 and Tier 4 team environment, support innovation, and lead a team of systems engineers. This position will require the skillset and experience using free thinking and independent judgement to provide solutions and move the team to the next level. The candidate will be responsible for developing technical solutions to challenging issues that may be unclear and experience unique hurdles requiring deep technical knowledge and out-of-the-box thinking. Responsibilities include installing, configuring, and maintaining virtual hosting environments to include VMware vSphere and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) across multiple data centers. The Systems Engineer executes implementation of baseline changes and respond to change requests, perform technical evaluations, analysis and troubleshooting for all supported servers. Additionally, the Systems Engineer will build servers by providing technical configuration, setup, installation services, and IP addressing and provisioning.

Additional tasks can include:

  • Provide Tier 3 troubleshooting support.
  • Participate in the upgrading of operating systems and development of new system designs and enhancements.
  • Install, configure, test and maintain application, OS, and related software tools.
  • Participate and provide solutions at technical exchange meetings (TEMs).
  • Recommend and develop new technical solutions in support of stakeholder mission operations.
  • Working with cloud-based environments and vendors such as AWS (EC2, VPC), Azure (Resource groups), and/or Google (VPC networks).
  • Installing, configuring, and maintaining virtual hosting environments to include VMware vSphere and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) across multiple data centers.
  • Designing, developing, architecting, and deploying cloud ready applications and/or migrating applications to the cloud.
  • Implementation, operations and maintenance of load balancer technologies across multiple systems.
  • Identify solutions and collaborate with developers, engineers, administrators, and other team members to implement the solutions that meet stakeholder requirements.
  • Meet with commercial vendors to understand latest technology capabilities, troubleshooting support, configuration support, licensing support, etc.

Required Qualifications:

  • Active TS/SCI with Polygraph.
  • Ability to satisfy a government-administered high-risk role screening.
  • Bachelor's degree and 12+ years of experience in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field, or 8 years of work-related experience in lieu of degree.
  • Experience troubleshooting system communication issues at Tier-3 level support.
  • Experience with installation, configuration and maintenance of VMware vSphere and/or VMware Horizon View (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure).
  • Strong working knowledge of networking fundamentals to include Juniper and/or Cisco firewalls and network connectivity and storage practices.
  • Experience designing systems in high threat mission critical environment.
  • Familiarity of data center infrastructure and technologies.
  • Packet broker knowledge.
  • Hands-on experience with scripting or using automation tools.
  • Familiarity with Cloudian.
  • Knowledge of implementing and updating commercial software licenses.
  • Experience with Enterprise Log Management (ELM).
  • Experience with engineering and implementation of Type-1 and Type-2 encryption, including virtual private networks (VPNs).
  • Strong security domain knowledge and experience supporting A&A system accreditation requirements.
  • Hands on experience configuring and implementing active directory and group policies.
  • Experience providing detailed engineering and technical leadership to engineering staff involving multiple, complex and interrelated project tasks.
  • Experience effectively communicating at senior levels within a customer organization.
  • Must be a self-starter and able to self-direct in project tasking and problem solve technical issues with little guidance.
  • Must be innovative to lend new approaches and methods to increase efficiency and productivity.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field.
  • Knowledge of Linux, Red Hat or Ubuntu.
  • Experience supporting high performance computing environments.
  • Knowledge of AWS, Azure, or other cloud hosting environments.
  • Familiarity with data center infrastructure and experience with Cisco and/or Juniper routers and switches.
  • Experience with Visio network visualization for LAN, WAN data centers and data flow diagrams.
  • Familiarity with Load Balancers (physical and virtual).
  • Possess excellent written and oral communication skills.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $126,100.00 - $227,950.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
