The Director, MAKE Business Process Owner will lead the business process standardization, to enable consistent design and implementation of the SAP S4 HANA Global Template for manufacturing (MAKE) across diverse MedTech business units, including Ethicon, CSS, DPS and Vision. Reporting to the MT Supply Chain Digital organization, this leader will drive strategy, business process standardization, digitization & optimization, and innovation to enable operational excellence and transformation.

As the single point of accountability for their function within the MT TranSCend program, the BPO will collaborate with cross-functional teams, governance councils, and stakeholders to ensure process integrity, alignment, and adoption of global solutions. They will establish a network of functional experts to define and document core business processes, benchmark manufacturing process best practices, and champion change while partnering with JJT and Global Product Owners to deliver a harmonized, optimized blueprint.

The Director, MAKE Business Process Owner is responsible for end-to-end process design, integration, and optimization across the Product Supply network. This role goes beyond traditional manufacturing (Make) by encompassing the broader MAKE scope, which includes planning, sourcing, manufacturing, quality, and logistics to the first distribution center. The MAKE BPO serves as the key liaison between business leaders, technical experts, and digital transformation initiatives to ensure alignment and drive strategic impact.

This role requires expertise in manufacturing processes (either / both industry expertise and J&J product knowledge), strong leadership in aligning organizational goals, and a focus on enabling standardized and innovative solutions to meet critical business needs. The role requires the ability to drive consensus across multiple parties with conflicting views, to champion a project solution and frame changes in a way that engages and excites the end user community. The ideal candidate will be forward-thinking and able to proactively identify risks and weigh the resulting impacts.

Key Responsibilities:

Global Process Design and Governance

• Define, develop, and manage the comprehensive MAKE scope, integrating Plan (production planning), Source (raw and external materials), Make (manufacturing), Quality (QA & QC), and Logistics (first distribution center handoff).

• Lead the standardization of MAKE (Manufacturing) processes across MedTech operations, aligning business processes with industry best practices.

• Lead the design and implementation of MAKE processes within the Transcend framework, ensuring adherence to enterprise standards and alignment with OTC (Order-to-Cash) processes where applicable

• Ensure consistent adoption and governance of the global template across all MedTech manufacturing operations.

• Oversee process documentation, including global flows, SOPs, and work instructions.

• Drive integrated, effective deployment of key business processes within program timelines and scope, ensuring successful adoption through MedTech Transcend.

• Establish common reporting, end-to-end metrics, and baseline-driven improvements to optimize performance.

• Make Key Design Decisions (KDDs) and socialize with Functional Owners and escalate through governance model when required

• Work with other Functional Leads to make cross-functional KDDs and other decisions

SAP S4 HANA Implementation

• Collaborate with the Product Owner (PO) to ensure implementation of MAKE (manufacturing) processes on the SAP S4 HANA Platform

• Partner with Product Owner (PO) to ensure SAP S4 HANA capabilities support both current and future-state business requirements, enabling scalability and process optimization.

• Lead and coordinate all testing efforts, including Business Simulation Testing (BST), User Acceptance Testing (UAT), system integration testing, and data validation to ensure process accuracy, system performance, and solution integrity.

• Define and manage data requirements to support SAP S4 HANA implementation, including data mapping, cleansing, migration, and validation to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with system standards.

• Proactively identify, document, and resolve requirements and process gaps, to mitigate risks and maintain project timelines.

• Support deployment readiness by ensuring system configurations, test results, and data validations meet business and operational requirements.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Serve as the strategic connector across the Product Supply network, ensuring alignment with business objectives and maximizing operational efficiency.

• Partner with MAKE enterprise, regional, and franchise leadership to define and prioritize MT TranSCend business capabilities that drive value realization.

• Serve as the central liaison across manufacturing sites, business units, Supply Chain, Quality, and IT teams to align priorities, resolve conflicts, and ensure seamless execution.

• Collaborate with Planning, Source, Logistics, Finance, Tax, Transportation, Trade, Deliver and Quality leaders to optimize end-to-end supply chain processes.

• Facilitate workshops to gather input, identify process gaps, and drive consensus on process design and transformation.

• Act as a Change Champion, driving adoption of industry best practices and process harmonization across franchises.

• Communicate MAKE strategies across global and regional supply chain functions to ensure alignment with MedTech TranSCend objectives and timelines.

• Support MAKE execution of Business Planning (BP), Continuous Improvement Projects (CIPs), and Long-Range Financial Plans (LRFP).

• Partner with the Global Product Owner to ensure capability design, deployment, and steady-state support, maintaining template integrity.

Change Adoption and Testing

• Partner with MAKE enterprise, regional, and franchise leadership to define and prioritize MT TranSCend business capabilities that drive value realization.

• Serve as the central liaison across manufacturing sites, business units, Supply Chain, Quality, and IT teams to align priorities, resolve conflicts, and ensure seamless execution.

• Collaborate with Planning, Source, Logistics, Finance, Tax, Transportation, Trade, Deliver and Quality leaders to optimize end-to-end supply chain processes.

Continuous Improvement and Transformation

• Identify opportunities for process improvement to drive efficiency, cost optimization, and operational excellence within the MAKE function.

• Monitor and measure the effectiveness of the SAP S4 HANA processes post-implementation, driving corrective actions as necessary.

• Leverage analytics and reporting to identify trends, optimize manufacturing processes, and achieve business objectives.

• Enable digital transformation and automation initiatives to future-proof manufacturing processes.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Education: Minimum of Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent University degree required; advanced degree or MBA preferred

Required:

  • Minimum ten (10) years of relevant professional work experience

• Progressive leadership experience in Operations, Supply Chain, or large-scale transformation programs, with MAKE or Supply Chain business experience.

• Experience leading ERP process improvement and SAP manufacturing implementations, specifically with SAP S4 HANA, including business process design, engineering, or optimization.

• Experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources.

  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to align priorities across diverse business units.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making capabilities.
  • Effective communication, influencing, and collaboration skills to work with stakeholders across executive, functional, and operational levels.
  • Experience working in complex, multi-site, and global environments, including process decomposition and blueprint design.
  • Proven ability to lead and influence stakeholders, with excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience managing projects to timelines and milestones in complex business environments, with governance and decision-making leadership capabilities.
  • Ability to deploy standardized work processes, tools, and templates.

Preferred:

  • Experience with robotics and automation in manufacturing and knowledge of MedTech regulatory environments (e.g., FDA, ISO)
  • Certification in areas like APICS, Lean/Six Sigma, or Process Excellence

Other:

  • May require up to 25% domestic and/or international travel to other locations and sites.
  • The anticipated base pay range for this position is $146,000 - $251,850/yr.

The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation's performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company's discretion on an individual basis.
