Hachette Book Group is seeking a seasoned and dynamic Senior Human Resources Director to co-lead HR strategies and initiatives across the organization. This pivotal role will serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, collaborating with the Chief Human Resources Officer and other members of the HR team to drive comprehensive employee relations, compensation planning, performance and talent management, and inclusion initiatives. Supporting approximately 1,000 employees across the U.S. and partnering with other Hachette Book Group locations, the HR Director will play a critical role in aligning HR solutions with business objectives while fostering an inclusive and innovative workplace culture.

Key Responsibilities
Employee Relations and Engagement
  • Build trusted relationships across divisions, acting as a visible and approachable HR leader.
  • Serve as a front-facing HR partner to publishing divisions, working closely with leadership to identify and address employee needs.
  • Manage informal and formal employee relations cases, providing guidance and resolution on complex issues.
  • Provide coaching to managers and employees on family leave and other key employee programs.
  • Conduct exit interviews, analyze feedback, and contribute insights to drive cultural improvement.
Compensation and Pay Structure
  • Co-lead and support the annual pay review and bonus process, ensuring alignment with key objectives such as talent retention, pay equity, and performance.
  • Partner with the CHRO, Sr Director, HR Operations, and finance teams to maintain salary banding and compensation frameworks that are competitive, fair, and equitable.
  • Work closely with the Sr Director, HR Operations to implement compensation strategies and ensure data integrity in pay structures and analysis.
  • Provide expertise and recommendations on job evaluation, salary benchmarking, and compensation modeling to support financial decision-making and strategic organizational goals.
  • Collaborate with managers and HR business partners to guide merit-based pay decisions and bonus distributions.
Strategic HR Leadership
  • Partner with the CHRO and other HR team members to develop and implement HR strategies that align with business goals.
  • Serve as one of the key business partners for senior divisional leaders and publishing teams, providing strategic guidance on organizational priorities.
  • Lead organizational design efforts, including restructuring plans to support business goals and strategic objectives.
  • Represent HR at leadership meetings, providing strategic insights and solutions.
Talent and Performance Management
  • Design and implement programs for developing top talent.
  • Oversee talent assessments, succession planning, and calibration sessions across all levels.
  • Refine performance management processes, including annual reviews, goal setting, and new hire evaluations.
HR Operations and Analytics
  • Partner with the Sr Director, HR Operations and CHRO to analyze HR metrics and create executive-level presentations.
  • Act as a key liaison with the Sr Director, HR Operations to ensure seamless HR technology solutions that support compensation, reporting, and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Leverage Excel and other HR tools to build compensation models and scenario planning frameworks to support financial decision-making.
  • Oversee onboarding and offboarding processes, leveraging data to improve employee satisfaction and engagement.
  • Ensure HR policies and procedures are effectively implemented and support business priorities.

Experience and Qualifications
  • 8+ years of HR leadership experience, including experience as an HR Business Partner or in a similar senior role in large organizations.
  • Proven track record of managing complex employee relations issues, organizational design, and talent management processes.
  • Experience managing and developing HR teams, with a focus on fostering growth and alignment with company culture.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. employment legislation and compliance.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office and HR systems, UltiPro and PayScale a plus.
  • Demonstrated success in driving DEI initiatives and designing strategies to retain diverse talent.

The compensation for this position is $140,000 - $190,000. There may be times that you will be required (or requested) to work overtime due to the nature of your role or exceptional workload issues or special projects.
