Primary Responsibilities

The Director of Human Resources (HR) will lead the HR team to serve as a trusted resource to employees, ensuring quality talent management and compliance for a dynamic and fast-growing organization. Reporting to the VP of Strategy & Talent, this person will lead a three member HR team as well as HR service providers, contractors and consultants brought in to provide additional expertise and support in key areas.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
HR Strategy and Organizational Development
  • With the VP of Strategy & Talent, develop and implement an HR strategy and roadmap that supports GlobalGiving's strategy and is responsive to external trends (e.g. the future of work, hybrid workforce, etc).
  • Advise the Executive Team on all aspects of Human Resources, including talent, staffing and workforce planning, performance management, learning & development, total rewards, compliance and risk
  • Partner with leaders and managers to design and deliver an outstanding employee experience that drives retention and makes GlobalGiving a top workplace
  • Anticipate obstacles and proactively offer and implement solutions to keep up with organizational growth, mitigate risk, and ensure compliance with labor laws
  • Leverage data analytics and industry practices/benchmarks to evaluate HR operations' effectiveness, recommend changes, create buy in, and implement
  • Create objective measures and standardized reporting to help leadership understand employee trends (turnover, performance, risks, compensation)
  • Integrate Race, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (REDI) initiatives and strategy with HR work and functions, to continue alignment with organizational mission and goals; working closely with the HR team, leadership and the REDI Team.
Compensation & Benefits (Total Rewards)
  • Provide strategic and operational leadership in the design, implementation, administration, and communication of Total Rewards (compensation and benefits) including base pay, incentive programs, wellness and retirement.
  • Optimize total rewards offerings to attract top talent, foster retention and enhance engagement; determine and implement metrics that assess and monitor the effectiveness of ongoing rewards programs and new initiatives
  • Develop an equitable compensation philosophy, employee value proposition, and salary range structure that governs decisions and processes around base pay, bonuses, benefits, or other incentives; ensure alignment with REDI vision and goals.
  • Lead company-wide Job Architecture/Leveling initiative to clarify and harmonize job titles, pay grades, career paths, and differentiated compensation structures
  • Collaborate with leaders to develop compensation planning guidelines, and create manager trainings and employee communications
  • Partner with leadership on an ongoing basis to provide subject matter expertise on hiring ranges, competitive counter offers and pay equity to ensure internal equity and external competitive positioning
  • Oversee the annual performance review process and ensure integration with the overall compensation strategy
  • Lead bid process and transition plans for new HR vendors/providers; create benefit comparisons to identify gaps and make recommendations
HR Infrastructure, Operations and Compliance
  • Provide tailored supervision and professional development to HR team members while leveraging their strengths and expertise
  • Develop and oversee annual budget for HR department; monitor expenditures
  • Partner with the VP of Finance to prepare and manage the annual budget for compensation, benefits, perks and L&D costs; oversee periodic market analysis ensure competitiveness and support equity
  • Lead HR team to ensure all legal federal/state/local compliance requirements are maintained; directly responsible for staying up to date on new regulations and ensuring communication, appropriate trainings, and enforcement
  • Support effective internal communication including key updates/announcements at staff meetings, regular progress reports to leadership and the Board.
Talent Management and Workforce Planning
  • Partner with leadership to analyze, forecast, and plan workforce supply and demand to ensure the right talent in the right places at the right time. Work closely with the VP Strategy & Talent, VP Finance, and leadership on staffing decisions, workforce & succession planning, performance intervention & management, and workforce development
  • Develop and implement a learning & development / professional development strategy for employees, to ensure they have the opportunity and resources to acquire new knowledge and skills to perform and grow in their job/profession
  • Oversee recruitment and onboarding - to ensure GlobalGiving recruits, onboards and retain high performing team members.

Required Qualifications

For our team to be a great fit for you, the following qualifications should resonate with you:
  • 10+ years of Human Resources experience
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or 4-years equivalent of direct HR experience with HS Diploma/GED
  • HR expert with deep understanding of payroll, benefits, employee relations, compliance, policy creation and enforcement, recruitment, workforce planning and development, internal communications, and leadership guidance
  • Experience hiring and supporting international workforce (staff and contractors) outside the US, ideally experienced using external staffing agencies for this
  • Demonstrated experience leading organizational development and (infrastructure and talent) change management; recruitment and workforce planning for a growing organization
  • Experience with total rewards development and management including compensation structure plan and design, benefits offerings, equity, executive pay, incentive plan strategy and administration
  • Experience being part of a senior management team, and leading and coaching a HR team
  • Knowledge of local, state, federal labor laws and best practices for risk mitigation (FLSA, ACA, FMLA, PFL, workers' comp)
  • Demonstrated experience as a HR thought partner for senior leaders and managers; providing coaching on effective team management
  • Demonstrated experience with budget and expenditure management, along with HR vendor contract negotiation and management
  • HRIS management experience; skilled in leveraging HR technology to support business decisions and using automation to support efficiency
  • Experience with performance management or employee engagement development, metrics, tools

Preferred Qualifications

In addition, the ideal candidate would also have some or all of the following qualifications:
  • Preferred Certifications: SHRM-CP/SCP, PHR, SPHR
  • Advanced certifications are a plus. Examples: Certified Compensation Professional (CCP), Certified Executive Compensation Professional (CECP), Certified, Equity Professional (CEP), Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS), Certified Benefits, Professional (CBP), Gallup/Coaching certifications

Salary + Benefits

Starting salary range: $120K to $130K.

Location

This is a full-time position reporting to the VP of Strategy & Talent and will be filled remotely for the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic. Once in-office operations can safely resume, this role will be based in GlobalGiving's headquarters in Washington, D.C., with opportunities to telework.
