This is a remote role that may only be hired in the following locations: NC, AZ, GA, NJ, FL

The Senior Director of Data Engineering for Corporate Functions will lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of advanced data engineering solutions supporting corporate functions within the bank, with a particular emphasis on regulatory reporting. This role will focus on ensuring that the bank's data systems enable accurate, timely, and compliant reporting for financial regulations, including but not limited to Basel III, Dodd-Frank, various regulatory report filings and SOX. The Senior Director will oversee the data architecture and engineering efforts supporting the bank's treasury, regulatory reporting, risk, credit and finance functions, ensuring compliance with industry regulations and delivering high-quality data products. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in data engineering, regulatory compliance, and data governance, and a proven ability to lead complex, cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy
  • Lead and manage the data engineering team responsible for building and maintaining the data pipelines, platforms, and architecture needed for regulatory reporting and corporate functions operations, including treasury, risk management, credit functions and financial reporting.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership in CDAO office and corporate functions (e.g., office of CFO, CRO and CCO) to align data engineering solutions with their business objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and execute strategies for the integration and transformation of banking data to ensure the delivery of accurate and compliant regulatory reports.
Data Engineering & Architecture
  • Design, implement, and manage scalable and secure data systems that support regulatory reporting, financial forecasting, and banking operations.
  • Ensure that data pipelines are optimized for regulatory reporting use cases, such as liquidity risk, capital adequacy, stress testing, and other banking regulations.
  • Oversee the development of data models and architectures that support key regulatory reports (e.g., CCAR, CECL, Dodd-Frank Act stress tests, FDIC 370).
  • Provide oversight for cloud data platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and ensure the integration of various banking systems to streamline reporting.
Regulatory Reporting
  • Direct the design and implementation of data models and solutions that support the bank's regulatory reporting requirements, including but not limited to capital adequacy, liquidity, credit risk, and market risk reports.
  • Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and timeliness for regulatory filings in line with relevant financial regulations (e.g., Dodd Frank, Basel III, SOX, AML, FDIC 370).
  • Lead the development of automated solutions to generate, validate, and streamline regulatory reports.
  • Work closely with auditors, external regulators, and internal risk management teams to ensure transparency, accuracy, and compliance with all regulatory reporting requirements.
Data Governance & Compliance
  • Lead the implementation of robust data governance frameworks and data management policies, ensuring compliance with data privacy and protection regulations, such as GDPR and CCPA, where applicable.
  • Develop and enforce data quality standards to ensure that data used for regulatory reporting is accurate, reliable, and well-documented.
  • Collaborate with the risk, audit, and compliance teams to ensure that the bank's data systems meet internal and external regulatory requirements, including data retention and traceability.
Team Management & Development:
  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performance team of data engineers, guiding them to deliver on complex, time-sensitive regulatory reporting and banking analytics initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the data engineering team.
  • Provide leadership and professional development to ensure the team is equipped with the necessary skills to handle emerging regulatory reporting challenges and new technologies.
Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and 10 years of experience in Information Technology including application development, support roles, and management. OR High School Diploma or GED and 14 years of experience in Information Technology including application development, support roles, and management.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • 12+ years of experience in data engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role supporting corporate functions, finance, or regulatory reporting.
  • Proven experience in the financial services or banking sector, preferably in a Large Financial Institution (LFI) with a strong understanding of regulatory compliance and reporting.
  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks such as SOX, Basel III, and Dodd-Frank, and experience applying them in data governance and reporting.
  • Hands-on experience with data engineering tools (e.g., SQL, Python, Snowflake, AWS, Azure) and cloud data platforms
Technical Skills
  • Strong knowledge of data warehousing concepts and tools such as Snowflake, Amazon Redshift, Google BigQuery, or Microsoft Azure Synapse Analytics
  • Proficiency in data modeling techniques (e.g., Star Schema, Snowflake Schema, Data Vault) for designing efficient data structures that support regulatory and financial reporting
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL (Structured Query Language) for querying relational databases and data warehouses.
  • Experience in implementing data governance practices using tools like Collibra, Alation, or Informatica to ensure data accuracy, traceability, and compliance.
  • Proficiency in tools for data quality monitoring and data lineage tracking, such as Talend, Great Expectations, or DataOps tools.
  • Strong knowledge of data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and the technical measures necessary to comply with those regulations in the banking sector. Experience with Data Masking, Encryption techniques, and secure data sharing protocols.
  • Experience with managing and architecting data lakes using platforms like AWS S3, Azure Data Lake, or Google Cloud Storage
  • Hands-on experience with ETL/ELT tools, data integration platforms, and streaming technologies (e.g., Fivetran, Qlik, DBT, Informatica, Apache Nifi, Kafka).
Leadership Skills
  • Ability to navigate complex regulatory environments and deliver actionable, compliant data solutions.
  • Strong strategic planning, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.


Preferred Skills
  • Certifications in cloud technologies (e.g., AWS Certified Data Analytics, Azure Data Engineer Associate).
  • Experience in data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) for presenting data-driven insights.
  • Knowledge of specialized platforms for regulatory compliance and reporting like AxiomSL, Wolters Kluwer, or Qlik for banking regulations such as Basel III, Dodd-Frank, CCAR, or SOX.
  • Familiarity with risk management systems and platforms (e.g., Moody's Analytics, SAS ).
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and tools like JIRA, Confluence, and Trello to manage tasks and project timelines.
