As the Head of Risk & Control Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), you will oversee a team of experts dedicated to driving risk and control practices across our business. Your leadership will ensure understanding between team activities, organisational goals, and risk appetite, promoting a high-performing, collaborative environment.
This is a hybrid role reporting into Director of Risk & Control Operations
Work that matters - What you'll do
- Team Management: Mentor a team of SMEs, ensuring their professional growth and technical development. Establish performance goals and foster a collaborative culture.
- Risk Management: Oversee risk identification and mitigation efforts, ensuring understanding of strategic goals. Promote a holistic view of risk through aggregated reporting and analysis.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to internal policies and external regulatory requirements. Collaborate with senior partners to address regulatory challenges and manage associated risks.
- Customer Outcomes: Challenge the business to ensure customer outcomes are central to all propositions.
- Exposure Management: Manage complex risk-related loss events, conducting root cause analysis and developing response plans.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration: Serve as an important contact between the central control function, Business Unit partners, and the second line of defence.
- Risk-Based Decision Making: Support business partners in making informed, risk-based decisions by providing an aggregated view of risk exposures.
- Operational Oversight: Develop Key Risk and Control Indicators (KRIs and KCIs), ensuring their relevance and effectiveness.

Experience and Skills
What you'll need to bring to the role & Experian
- Leadership & People Management: ability to manage a team of technical specialists. To inspire trust and motivate team members.
- Risk Management Expertise: Experience of risk management frameworks. Proficiency in scenario analysis and developing mitigation strategies.
- Regulatory & Internal Policy Compliance: Experience with industry-specific regulatory requirements and their impact on operational risk. In-depth understanding of compliance obligations related to AML, data privacy, cybersecurity, and FCA regulations.
- Problem Solving & Strategic Thinking: Ability to balance strategic goals with practical risk management solutions. Interpret and analyse risk data and provide relevant insights.
- Communication & Collaboration: Capability to work with different teams and communicate requirements and compliance expectations to non-technical colleagues.
