Position Summary

Research Finance Manager will provide necessary forecasting and in-depth analytics around R&D, business development, and new revenue models specific to key strategic initiatives of the Research Enterprise. Provides leaders with insightful information vital to the operational decision-making process. The position will be required to collaborating with various teams including Research Business Development, Accounting, Treasury & Investment, as well as Financial Operations

Reporting to the Executive Director Research Finance, this role will be responsible for performing functions to create, plan, initiate, prioritize and maintain key projects for Research within the Decision Support group. This will include the managing of project activities and deliverables in the multi-functional team setting. The research finance manager will also manage and make recommendations in the annual budget cycles for applicable areas.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Provide In-depth reporting across key strategic initiatives within Research. As the research organization continues to grow this includes managing and directing a number of research finance analysts to perform this reporting and analysis:
  • Combine available financial measures with operational metrics into practical analytics that provide actionable insights and facilitate decision making for Research leaders or Committees governing research decisions (e.g. Precision Medicine, IDDV)
  • Proactive identification and analysis of business issues and opportunities, including recommendations for future actions
  • Continuous improvement of existing financial reports and selective creation of new reports to track key initiatives within Research
    • Proactively conduct and/or manage regular, pro-active root cause analysis of ongoing performance across key areas (e.g. Precision Medicine, Industry Collaboration, etc.) resulting in recommendations to senior financial and research leaders where appropriate.
    • Design, implement and lead monthly and quarterly process to support and inform senior leadership about the key areas of strategic focus within Research
  • Work closely with key stakeholders to:
  • To develop and to enhance the quality of rolling forecast.
  • Understand performance against prior forecast.
  • To help build the business case for capital investments where needed.
    • Collaborate, assist and inform other members of the Decision Support Team and other member of Finance in solving ongoing issues.

    Help develop short- and long-term financial models for research initiatives.

    Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:

    • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration or related field.
    • Five to ten years related experience in Finance with 1-year supervisory experience, advanced Financial Analytics.
    • Knowledge of US GAAP and finance theory.
    • Exceptional project management and organizational skills.
    • Strong analytical/problem solving skills.
    • Results orientated with focus on exceeding planned targets.

    Basic education, experience and skills preferred for consideration:
    • MBA
    • Advanced courses in financial analytics, modeling, and forecasting models
