The Wealth and Advice Solutions Risk & Governance (WAS R&G) is a team of risk professionals supporting the Wealth and Advice Solutions (WAS) business in understanding and executing obligations of various risk programs. Within WAS R&G, the Governance and Business Operations team is responsible for elevating and focusing on governance practices across WAS. Key activities include governance forums across WAS, Metrics and Reporting, Product Governance, and Disclosure Management.

Reporting to the Director, WAS R&G, Governance & Business Operations, the Sr. Manager will play a critical role in enhancing transparency, governance effectiveness, and control oversight within the business. This individual will be responsible for leading governance reporting efforts, managing a risk metric program aligned with the second-line expectations, and ensuring clear and actionable insights are presented to governance committees. In this role you will grow your knowledge by cultivating subject matter expertise in the Risk Metric Program and overall issue management reporting, to drive effective governance, enhance risk visibility and improve decision-making.

This role also requires strong risk management, governance, and stakeholder engagement skills. This individual will work closely with first-line risk teams, second-line oversight functions, and business to drive effective visibility, reporting, and discussions.

Your responsibilities will include, but not limited to, supporting the following activities:

Governance Reporting & Committee Support:

  • Lead and own governance metric and issue management reporting, ensuring accurate and insightful risk reporting
  • Develop and maintain executive-level reports, dashboards, and presentation for governance committees, risk working groups, and leadership discussions
  • Ensure reporting aligns with enterprise-wide risk framework and expectations
  • Continuously improve governance reporting processes and quality to enhance clarity, efficiency, and decision-making

Risk Metric Program Management & Issue Management Reporting:

  • Manage the risk metric program, ensure continued alignment with second-line risk standards and enterprise-wide practices
  • Define, refine, track, and report on metrics (e.g., Business Unit Risk Appetite Metrics, Key Risk indicators) that reflect business risk exposure
  • Partner with first-line risk and second-line oversight functions to ensure data integrity, accuracy, and completeness of reporting
  • Provide insights on risk trends, emerging issues, and potential areas for improvement based on metric analysis
  • Evolve issue management reporting, including open action items, themes, and trends to drive business accountability and timely resolution
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and trusted advisor on risk metrics and issue reporting topics
  • Identify opportunities to streamline governance reporting, ensuring relevance and impact for leadership discussion and decision-making
  • Design, develop, and create WAS business guided resources
  • Other metric and reporting related activities

Key Skills:

  • Technical Skills: Understanding of risk metrics programs and frameworks and issue management tracking (preferably at Schwab)
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with governance best practices and industry standards
  • Organization/Thoroughness/Attention to Detail: Strong organizational skills to manage reporting, action items, communications
  • Relationship and Influence: Ability to work with senior stakeholders
  • Communication & Influence: Strong communication & facilitation skills for engaging other teams
  • Meeting Facilitation: Ability to structure and manage forums efficiently; facilitate agenda and content creation, drafting minutes, tracking action items and ensuring accountability, experience in facilitating, ensuring productive discussions, and driving decisions
  • Content Mgmt.: Ability to prepare clear and concise materials/presentations and reports
  • Data/Reporting: use data to drive meaningful insights for discussion and decision-making; identify trends, clear & actionable insights, present in digestible format, leverage data to support recommendations, tailor to audience and purpose
  • Process Optimizations & Continuous Improvement: a mindset for enhancing governance reporting efficiency and issue tracing effectiveness.

What you have

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in risk management or compliance, preferably in a diversified financial services environment
  • Understanding of risk metrics, issue management reporting, and governance frameworks
  • Familiarity with risk metrics (e.g., key risk indicators) and issue management (business identified issues, Compliance or Audit sourced issues
  • Experience developing and managing reporting for leadership and governance forums
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to identify risks, assess impact, and recommend mitigation strategies
  • Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent work experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret risk data, identify emerging trends, and drive meaningful insights
  • Expertise in turning data into actionable insights using effective charts, graphs, and visual storytelling telling techniques
  • Strong written and verbal communication, organization, and project management skills with experience preparing governance reports and executive-level presentations
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple governance deliverables in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to engage with senior stakeholders and partners with cross-functional teams
  • Proficient with Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook; working knowledge of Tableau
