The Difference You will Make:
We are looking for a Public Policy Manager to support our government relations across DACH and CEE, with a focus on the German federal states and cities. This role is a key member of the multi-skilled campaign team, defining policy goals and positions, co-shaping and implementing the campaign team’s strategy and representing the company in conversation with external stakeholders. You will be working alongside other functional experts who support those goals through content, community engagement and media relations. The role is also working in partnership with relevant cross functional teams. The ideal candidate will be passionate about Airbnb’s mission, and have proven experience in regulatory or political work in a relevant business or non-governmental organisation, or in a political, governmental or regulatory context.
This role will report to the Senior Public Policy Manager for DACH/CEE.
A Typical Day:
- Support the Senior Public Policy Manager, the Campaign Lead and colleagues in developing strategies, determining policy objectives and design policy positions and materials across the DACH & CEE market, with a focus on Germany.
- Support in developing an appropriate policy engagement strategy for the region, as determined through close collaboration with your manager, the other functional experts on your team and the Campaign Lead in the territory.
- You represent Airbnb in meetings and discussions with government officials, ministerial contacts, industry stakeholders or not-for-profit organisations. Drive external advocacy by representing Airbnb at all relevant political levels in your geography.
- In your work, you drive communication and accountability cross functionally. You ensure that internal stakeholders understand the engagement strategy and plans, and that information is flowing smoothly to everyone with a “need to know”.
- You ensure that progress is being reported regularly, and that roadblocks and successes are being flagged appropriately. You are able to confidently communicate with senior leaders about your priorities, to manage expectations where required and to coordinate with other teams to achieve greater goals.
- You advise Airbnb’s teams on public policy matters to guide development of products, services and policies and manage the operational implementation of national and local policy proposals and legislative measures, working with colleagues in our legal and California-based product teams;
- Frequent travel within the region should be expected, along with occasional travel within Europe and to our global headquarters in San Francisco.
Your Expertise:
- 7+ years experience working with complex political or regulatory issues in a relevant business or non-governmental organisation, or in a political, governmental or regulatory context. Ideally, this experience has been built in travel, urbanism or technology.
- In this role you must be skilled in policy engagement with a wide variety of external stakeholders at national and regional but also at local and city level - able to work proactively with elected officials, governments as well as administrative bodies to help stakeholders understand the contribution of the collaborative economy to sustainable tourism.
- Excellent knowledge of the political landscape and legislative processes in Germany are mandatory. Some knowledge of the political landscape in other DACH/CEE countries, as well as the EU level, are an advantage.
- Experience of managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders. Highly organised and able to stay on top of multiple projects simultaneously, while staying focused on overall strategic goals.
- Ability to quickly get up to speed on complex technical and regulatory issues, and understand how these can be managed using a broad range of campaigning strategies
- Expert communicator with great interpersonal and presentation skills
- Airbnb’s office in Germany is located in Berlin, and the role will be based here. Remote work in line with Airbnb’s policies is possible and welcomed.
- Native level German and fluent English are required, any other CEE language is an asset.
