About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Operational Risk Officer

In this role, you will:

  • Develop, implement, and monitor risk-based programs to identify, assess, and mitigate any operational risk that arises from inadequate or failed internal processes, people, systems, or external events
  • Maintain a balance between risk mitigation and operational efficiency
  • Evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of policies, procedures, processes, systems, and internal controls
  • Analyze extremely complex business and system changes to determine impact, identify operational risk issues and participate in the development of risk ratings
  • Provide operational risk expertise and consulting to complex business units for initiatives with high risk, generally spanning multiple business lines
  • Design and develop the most complex testing strategies, methodologies and analyses
  • Consult with the business to develop corrective action plans and effectively manage change
  • Identify training opportunities
  • Design and coordinate the development of training materials and coordinate or deliver training
  • Report findings and develop business cases to influence executive management, management committee member or head of business on the need for controls to mitigate risk
  • Collaborate and consult with peers, colleagues, and managers to resolve issues and achieve goals
  • Lead project or virtual teams and mentor less experienced staff

  • 5+ years of Operational Risk experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
Desired Qualifications:
  • Extensive experience in Business Consulting, Strategy Consulting, Business Operations/Analysis, or equivalent, demonstrated through a combination of work experience, training, military experience, or education.
  • Strong experience in business consulting, including hands-on leadership of oversight processes and business process management initiatives.
  • Deep knowledge of tools and techniques in process, project, and program management.
  • Strong understanding of business processes, risk management principles, and governance frameworks.
  • Proven track record in managing cross-functional projects and programs using Scrum and Kanban methodologies.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in creating process documentation and audit-ready artifacts.
  • Lean/Six Sigma Black Belt certification or equivalent business process management endorsement.
  • Expertise in risk reporting, adapting to changing stakeholder needs and requirements.
  • Familiarity with budgeting processes and financial management for large teams or groups.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent risk management project experience.
  • Proficiency in BPMN and experience with tools such as iGrafx, JIRA, and Tableau.

Roles and Responsibilities

Business & Strategic Initiatives

•Lead support functions and operations across multiple business groups, contributing to strategic initiatives and driving alignment with organizational goals.

•Ensure efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness in solutions, including robust pipeline management for assigned deliverables.

•Research complex business, operational, and strategic initiatives, leveraging analytical skills, organizational strategy knowledge, and an understanding of international business dynamics.

•Provide recommendations and leadership for support functions, working independently to drive business success.

Business Process, Program, and Project Management

•Develop and execute a roadmap of initiatives and activities aligned with organizational objectives to manage end-to-end business processes.

• Collaborate with internal teams to design, document, analyze, and optimize business processes, enhancing efficiency and effectiveness.

• Identify process improvement opportunities to foster operational excellence and create synergies.

• Lead cross-functional programs and projects, ensuring timely delivery within scope and requirements using agile and product-operating models.

• Oversee project plans, monitor progress, and provide regular status updates to stakeholders.

Global Delivery Excellence (GDE), Process Transitions, and Business Contingency Support

• Facilitate smooth migration of business processes in compliance with policies, ensuring seamless transitions.

• Ensure adherence to GDE requirements, maintaining comprehensive documentation.

• Develop and maintain robust business contingency plans to mitigate disruptions and ensure continuity.

• Conduct periodic business continuity plan (BCP) testing, sharing results and recommendations with stakeholders.

Risk and Controls Support

• Lead the preparation and execution of Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSAs), addressing roadblocks and ensuring stakeholder support.

• Evaluate existing controls, proposing enhancements to mitigate risks and ensure compliance with standards.

• Support evidence-based control evaluations and audits, including documentation and evidence gathering.

• Provide oversight for control implementation and risk mitigation strategies.

Governance and Oversight

• Establish and maintain governance frameworks, ensuring compliance with relevant policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

• Manage access reviews, desktop procedure updates, and audit readiness of business processes.

• Design and deliver timely reporting of key business process metrics, including KPIs and KRIs.
