About this role:

The Strategy, Planning & Governance team is seeking a Lead Risk Analytics Consultant role. The role will report to the Governance Senior Manager. The Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB) Chief Risk Officer (CRO) Governance Lead Risk Analytics Consultant is an individual contributor responsible to support engagement with CIB business and risk resources within the front line and across Corporate Risk to influence and challenge risk management activities and decisions as well as ensure alignment to the Risk Management Framework.

As the company's second line of defense, Corporate Risk - or Independent Risk Management - provides independent oversight of risk-taking activities. Independent Risk Management establishes and maintains Wells Fargo's risk management program and provides oversight, including challenges to and independent assessment of the frontline's execution of its risk management responsibilities. We manage risk according to the Risk Management Framework and ensure all employees understand their individual accountability for managing risk. Risk management at Wells Fargo is organized with clearly defined lines of defense to provide effective risk oversight and decision-making across the organization. Each line of defense is assigned specific responsibilities and understands the associated activities it is expected to perform. Independent risk management in Corporate Risk is responsible for independent oversight of risk-taking activities. The function is led by the Chief Risk Officer, who reports to the chair of the Risk Committee of the Board of Directors.

In this capacity, this role supports review and credible challenge to significant front line risk program execution, including Issues Management (IM) and New Business Initiatives (NBI) as well as engagement with Wells Fargo's Independent Testing & Validation (IT&V) and Internal Audit (IA) teams to evaluate risk and control testing results. In addition to these responsibilities, this role will support the CIB CRO as co-Chair of the Corporate and Investment Banking Risk and Control Committee (CIBRCC) including ensuring key risks and issues within the business are properly escalated and reported to the CIBRCC.

In this role, you will:
  • Support engagement with senior management across CIB and Corporate Risk to influence and challenge risk management activities and decision.
  • Collaborate on the development, implementation, and monitoring of risk-based programs to help identify, assess, and mitigate risks.
  • Develop specific subject matter expertise for the Corporate & Investment Banking Group including understanding of business strategy, the customer base, products and services and other relevant industry issues, frameworks, and emerging risks to provide effective IRM oversight and credible challenge.
  • The role requires a sense of urgency, passion for results and personal accountability for achievement.
  • Lead and support execution and credible challenge of IM and NBI processes including identifying areas for various strategic enhancements to the program.
  • Conduct and support independent cross-functional risk assessments, aggregate risk assessments, evaluate effectiveness of internal controls, and review and credibly challenge frontline control enhancements.
  • Contribute to the buildout of cross-program and cross-group analytics to identify opportunities and best practices to influence stronger risk management practices by the business
  • Lead and support the Governance team to influence appropriate risk management prioritization by the front line to enable the business to meet strategic objectives, while meeting IRM expectations
  • Contribute to independent risk management credible challenge to support the business in designing and implementing risk mitigation strategies, business processes and controls that mitigate risks and address regulatory requirements.
Required Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of Risk Analytics experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
Desired Qualifications:
  • A BS/BA degree or higher
  • Ability to articulate issues, risks, and proposed solutions to various levels of management while quickly establishing credibility to build and maintain effective working relationships
  • Prioritize work, meet deadlines, achieve goals, take on responsibility, initiative, and accountability and work under pressure in a dynamic and complex environment
  • Identify risk factors and ensure enactment of appropriate controls while simultaneously tracking and monitoring project progress, recognizing project and process gaps, recommending controls, and communicating progress to business leaders
  • Translate and present complex data in a manner that educates, enhances understanding, and influence decisions
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Advanced Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) skills
  • Experience building and implementing risk program
  • Demonstrated experience managing elevated levels of change
  • Proven experience partnering with varying levels of stakeholders across the organization
  • Demonstrated experience with complex data analysis used to inform management reporting
  • Ability to prepare and deliver complex data in a way that is concise/ understandable
