HBO Max originally launched in the United States in May 2020 and introduced a lower priced, advertising-supported tier in June 2021. It rolled out globally across Latin America and the Caribbean in 2021, followed by its first European launches in the Nordics and Spain later that year. In May 2023, Warner Bros. Discovery introduced Max, an enhanced streaming platform, in the U.S. HBO Max is currently available in 46 countries and there are plans for the continued global expansion of Max in 2024.
About the Team:
The Apple Player SDK team is a team of passionate engineers dedicated to building the best video playback experience in the industry for iOS and tvOS devices. We're obsessed with performance, quality and user experience. We're looking for a driven and passionate Software Engineer II to join our team. We thrive in a collaborative, agile environment and value innovation and continuous improvement.
This team is responsible for developing and optimizing video playback experiences across Apple platforms, ensuring high-quality, seamless streaming experiences for millions of users worldwide including on our flagship streaming service, Max.
The Job:
As a Software Engineer II, you will work with a team of talented engineers around the globe to deliver new video playback related features across the WBD streaming app suite. You will be expected to ensure these features are delivered on time and meet the high-quality standards we have within our teams.
To be successful in this position, you should have a strong understanding of Apple platform development. You have demonstrated the ability to use common industry tools for software development including IDEs, build and continuous integration, source code control management and code review tools. You can build and deliver high-quality software working within a professional team environment. You can provide technical documentation describing your contributions and contribute to your team's best practices. You will have access to experienced engineers in the streaming space as mentors.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain the Apple Player SDK for iOS, tvOS, and other Apple platforms.
- Collaborate with other software engineers and product teams to ensure successful implementation of software solutions to meet our primary goals.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues related to media streaming, buffering, and DRM.
- Ensure code quality through unit testing, integration testing, and code reviews.
Requirements:
- You have 2+ years of experience crafting software solutions with a track record for developing solutions used by a large user base.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
- Experience developing applications on Apple's iOS platform in the Swift programming language.
- Experience developing user interface components using Apple's SwiftUI or UIKit frameworks.
- Ability to provide periodic on-call support for critical emergent customer-facing issues in production.
Nice to have:
- Some experience in video streaming and DRM technologies.
- Experience developing applications for Apple's tvOS platform.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing and Agile development methodologies.
- Experience with other programming languages including C++, JavaScript, TypeScript, Kotlin.
- Familiarity with scripting languages including Python, PHP or Shell scripts.

In compliance with local law, we are disclosing the compensation, or a range thereof, for roles in locations where legally required. Actual salaries will vary based on several factors, including but not limited to external market data, internal equity, location, skill set, experience, and/or performance. Base pay is just one component of Warner Bros. Discovery's total compensation package for employees. Pay Range: $87,500.00 - $162,500.00 salary per year. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. In addition, Warner Bros. Discovery provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays and sick time and vacation.
