As part of Walmart Global Marketplace eCommerce engineering team, you will help define and build the Unified Data Platform as a single source of truth to centralize storage, availability, and real-time access to internal and external data with built in data governance & normalization standards. As a Staff Data Engineer, you'll work collaboratively with Engineering and Business teams to lead technical discovery, design, and implementation of large-scale data applications and tools. You'll have the opportunity to manage the complex challenges in integrating with various data sources, support data consumption patterns, and data enrichment requirements while using your expertise in coding, data structures and algorithms, complex triaging and analysis, and end-to-end system design.

About the Team :

Walmart Global Marketplace is a fast-growing segment of Walmart Global Tech. The team builds data assets to empower business teams in Global Marketplace site operations (seller.walmart. com, walmart.com, Walmart mobile apps) to measure, understand and bring insights to our core merchandise data including Sales Orders, SKU, Offers and Partner data to empower product application teams for innovating the customer experience on our site while managing risks We build out complex data workflows using GCP (Google Cloud Platform), Spark, GPU (Graphical Processing Units), Hive, Kafka, and other technologies to process hundreds of billions of transactions.

What you'll do :

  • Leading the discovery phase of medium to large projects
  • Data Modeling: Influencing the overarching data strategy and vision for data pipelines and data products. Overseeing and governing the expansion of existing data architecture and the optimization of data query performance via best practices. Presenting and socializing data models to business and information technology stakeholders.
  • Data Architecture: Designing, implementing, and improving processes in data management.
  • Code development of medium-to large-scale, complex, cross-functional projects.
  • Enhancing design to prevent re-occurrences of defects, ensuring on-time delivery and hand-offs. Daily interacting with project manager to provide input on project plan and providing leadership to the project team.
  • Leading the work of other small groups of six to ten engineers, including offshore associates. Leading assigned Engineering projects by providing pertinent documents, direction, and examples: identifying short- and long- term solutions and timeline. Reviewing and approving proposed solutions, implementing new architectural patterns, and performing design and code reviews of changes.
  • Developing Innovation strategies, processes, and best practices by leading internal technical teams.

What you'll bring :

  • You have expert-level technical skills and a proven record of accomplishment of building data pipelines using Spark, Hive, Kafka that are highly scalable, performant, and reliable.
  • You have expert-level coding skills in JAVA, Spring, API design, GraphQL, Kafka, databases (SQL, no-SQL)
  • You are skilled in data modeling & data migration protocols
  • You have experience with Presto, Big Query.
  • You have experience with data integration tools like Automic, or Airflow
  • You are experienced in public cloud computing platforms (e.g., GCP, Azure)

The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00-$286,000.00

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.

Minimum Qualifications...

Option 1: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and 4 years' experience in software engineering or related field. Option 2: 6 years' experience in software engineering or related field. Option 3: Master's degree in Computer Science and 2 years' experience in software engineering or related field.
