The VP, Application Engineering Open VisaNet (OVN) will report to the Head of OVN and will lead the development, and execution on a range of new cloud-ready technology capabilities, while ensuring operational resilience, best-in-class security and performance, and improved market integration.

Open VisaNet is the next generation of VisaNet and will position us to continue to lead our industry for decades to come. It will push the envelope of building highly scalable, secure, cost effective and distributed applications on commodity hardware using best-in-class technology components. Open VisaNet is one of Visa's key strategic initiatives that will help Visa support in-country processing solutions and provide Visa an opportunity to move away from proprietary mainframe type systems.

 

Key responsibilities include

 

  • Lead a Global engineering team of approx. 150 engineers located across the US, UK and India
  • Provide technical execution to align with the OVN strategy and key deliverable across FY25 and beyond
  • Provide technical thought leadership to a future facing application engineering team as well as the OVN Leadership Team
  • Work closely with product management to define the right feature set and technical roadmap
  • Work closely with cybersecurity and operations & infrastructure to ensure a seamless model of coding, deployment and operations of the code in production
  • Ensure that all technology initiatives are executed on time and in line with technology objectives

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

• 12 years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor's Degree or 10 years of relevant work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters/MBA/JD/MD) or 8 years relevant work experience with a PhD
• Proven experience in building and executing features at scale in a Global environment
• Experience managing large global team of engineers across multiple time zones


Preferred Qualifications

• 15+ years of experience work experience in building and running high scale software platforms, at least 10+ years in high scale always-on SaaS platforms
• Exceptional technical expertise in leading teams using open systems tools and technologies including programming languages like Java & GoLang, caching technologies like Hazelcast & Redis, streaming technologies like Kafka, databases like Mysql, Mongo, Cassandra, DB2, Hadoop and latest dev ops methodologies and tools
• Experience with Agile development methodologies like SAFe and associated platforms like Jira Align, Jira, Jenkins and ServiceNow,
• Knowledge and experience of Generative AI based pair programming techniques to enhance coding and testing quality, timeline, efficiency and effectiveness.
• Ability to take ownership of complex, multi-faceted, open-ended problems and drive them to completion
• Demonstrated ability to recruit, grow, retain, and lead high-caliber technical talent
• Multi-tasking ability essential to handle multiple priorities with minimal direction from management and adjust to changing priorities and requirements in a rapidly growing organization
• Strong leadership and people management skills, with demonstrated ability to lead global, multi-functional teams.
• Proven ability to drive consensus across diverse, global technology and business partners

Additional Information

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 222,000 to 347,650 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity. Visa has a comprehensive benefits package for which this position may be eligible that includes Medical, Dental, Vision, 401 (k), FSA/HSA, Life Insurance, Paid Time Off, and Wellness Program.
