In your capacity as Head of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE), you are entrusted with the development of Regional Action plans and the advancement of strategic endeavors that contribute to a culture of safety, the reduction of work-related risks, and the maintenance of compliance with established safety, health, and environmental standards at every Vestas AME (United States and Canada) site and operational sphere.

  • Provide HSE oversight and support across diverse activities, including, not limited to repair centers, supply chain logistics, service projects, construction sites, factories, and office environments
  • Ensure compliance with all local, regional, and international HSE regulations, as well as company HSE standards
  • Strengthen safety culture by establishing, executing and reinforcing policies, procedures, behaviors, and initiatives.
  • Establish clear communication channels representing HSE across all AME sites to a complex set of stakeholders, including the Regional President, Vice Presidents, local and global HSE teams.
  • Support global initiatives with local priorities and applicability, translating and implementing global HSE strategies into relevant and actionable regional plans
  • Establish proactive measures to identify and mitigate HSE risks before they manifest.
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives, operational and behavioral, by analyzing regional safety performance data, identifying trends, and devising action plans
  • Partner closely with regional operations leaders to integrate HSE practices into day-to-day business activities
  • Lead safety walkthroughs, audits, and site inspections in collaboration with operational teams
  • Partner with the Global Manufacturing HSE team offering local support and expertise
  • Spearhead regional risk assessment activities for AME, incorporating the identification of hazards, monitoring of safety practices, and conduct job safety evaluations.
  • Implement a data-driven approach to monitor safety performance, identify emerging risks, and prioritize initiatives
  • Oversee the investigation of significant HSE incidents, ensuring thorough root cause analysis
  • Oversee regular HSE audits and inspections across regional sites, tracking performance and implementing improvements

Key Tasks:

  • Create a detailed, step-by-step HSE action plan that outlines specific safety goals, initiatives, and timelines for each year. This plan should clearly articulate the risks and HSE controls that are been targeted, ensuring alignment with global HSE strategies and regional operational needs.
  • Schedule and oversee appropriate safety performance reviews with regional VPs to analyze incident data, track progress on safety initiatives, and identify areas that require additional focus or resources.
  • Organize workshops with key operational teams to conduct risk assessments across all major activities. Develop a prioritized list of risks and create action plans to address high-priority issues,
  • Develop and enforce standardized safety protocols and control of work that apply across all sites.
  • Establish support systems and processes to monitor (spot checks) all workers within Regional Functional (internal & external) are competent based on the established global/regional training requirements
  • Ensure Regional and Global electrical standards and guidelines are implemented across the Function
  • Make certain that all Operational audits adhere to the outlined plan and that both internal and external audits receive the necessary assistance
  • Collaborate and partner with regional leaders on key safety responsibilities, such as legal responsibilities, safe systems of work, conducting safety audits, promoting safety culture, and responding to incidents.
  • Schedule regular safety walkthroughs and audits across all sites, involving site managers and HSE teams.
  • Implement tailored training programs, aligned to Global frameworks that focus on the specific risks and needs of different business
  • Ensure incidents are investigated promptly, root causes are identified, and corrective actions are implemented. Track follow-ups to confirm the effectiveness of the corrective actions.
  • Work with regional business leaders to align safety initiatives with broader business goals (e.g., efficiency, productivity).
  • Initiate, support, and potentially guide HSE governance and consultative framework in adherence to legal, Vestas, and ISO standards
  • Facilitate & support the close out on the agreed actions, from HSE meetings in collaboration with the regional leaders

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field. Advanced degree or professional certifications (e.g., CSP, NEBOSH, ISO Lead Auditor) are significantly favored.


  • Experience:
  • At least 10-15 years of experience in HSE leadership roles, with a proven history of managing regional or multi-site HSE programs.
  • Experience in high-risk industries (e.g., construction, logistics, energy) with a deep understanding of safety issues and best practices.
  • Verified effectiveness in creating and instituting HSE strategies that achieve tangible advancements in safety standards.
  • Experience in conducting risk assessments, leading incident investigations, and engaging with regulatory bodies.
  • Experience implementing a major HSE platform across a large, multi-site, region. Sphera experience preferred.
