Part of our growing Technology division, the CDAO team responsible for transforming how our crew use data so that clients and investors can thrive. Our mission is to accelerate Vanguard's growth, clients, crew, and client experience by using data to inform and elevate every decision. We power information through data - improving outcomes, guiding strategies, and changing behaviour.
The Data Engineering team establishes technical excellence by knowing what their critical data is, where it is, and how it's being used. This supports Vanguard's reporting suite, global compliance, data quality efforts, and data security efforts .
As our Data Modeler , you will be reporting into the Data Engineering Manager and will lead the development and rollout of physical, logical, and conceptual Entity Relationship Diagrams with a clear focus on documenting our current landscape of data sources as well as our to-be Data Lakehouse infrastructure. You'll play a key role in defining the standards for our new data store and guiding the Engineering team to build a modern solution that enables self-serve data.

What you will do
- Explore our data sources to understand, model, and document the data we take from them.
- Build Entity Relationship Diagrams to show the physical, logical, and conceptual makeup of our holistic data sources and our target databases.
- Work closely with people across all aspects of Vanguard's business to understand data coming into our team and how data will be used once provided by our team.
- Develop quer ies and other test artefacts to validate data is appropriately flowing through data pipelines in line with business requirements.
- Deliver training and knowledge share sessions to the Data Engineering team covering the designed data models.
- Liaise with our Product Owner, Data Analyst, Data Scientists, Product Architect, Data Engineers and engage business stakeholders directly to validate assumptions and design decisions .
- Participates in design, code, and test inspections throughout life cycle to identify issues and improvements to our data models.
What We Are Looking For
- Thorough understanding of Business I ntelligence , Kimball Methodology, Data Vault 2.0 and other design principles for data modelling.
- Excellent SQL skills for data exploration.
- Strong written and oral communication skills and presentation skills with the a bility to translate business needs to system and software/data requirements.
- S trong analysis and analytical skills with attention to detail within complex systems and datasets , particularly on relationships between them.
- Experience working in Data & Analytics team s with Data Engineer s, Analyst s , Scientists on on-premises or cloud-based environment s.
- Experience with or knowledge of working with SaaS products, CRM and ERP systems , and generally working with data in different formats, such as flat files, APIs, JSON, and RDBMS .
- Good understanding of lean and Agile principles, including Shift left, DevOps, CloudOps , DataOps , CI/CD & with a SRE mindset .
- Experience working in complex Data environments, including with ETL processes/data integration frameworks , such as with Data Lakehouse s , Data Warehouse s and Data L ake s .
- A s elf- s tarter who's c omfortable with a mbiguity and d emonstrable l earning a gility .
- Experience with Data Visualization tools (Tableau is p referred).

- Knowledge of the financial services industry , particularly Investment Management .
- Experience in setting up, operating , and monitoring a technical platform and its associated technologies.
