General Summary:
This position is a Benefits function and is responsible for effectively managing and leading a team of experienced benefits tax professionals. This position serves as the subject matter expert on third-party tax requirements and compliance. Key deliverables for this role include leading the team to consistently achieve quality results with efficiency, produce customer 1099 and W2 forms and provide a highly rated consumer experience. This role works closely with internal and external business partners, including Corporate Tax to deliver documentation to meet IRS filing requirements and other compliance reporting.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
• Responsible for the strategic direction and development of the Benefits Tax Reporting program, a key control mechanism for the company.
• Serve as a recognized subject matter expert regarding customer taxability and third-party tax responsibility, reporting and compliance.
• Develop a highly motivated and successful team of professionals with specialized tax knowledge.
• Analyze data to develop trend analysis and provide clear, concise and actionable reporting to key stakeholders.
• Partner and communicate effectively with management on trends within Tax Reporting to develop action plans where appropriate.
• Collaborate with key stakeholders and leaders to provide holistic, actionable trend analysis to operational partners.
• Effectively provide leadership to a cross-site Tax Reporting team, including ensuring appropriate training, mentoring and effective use of PX to embed principles of simplicity, expertise and empathy.
• Respond to and take appropriate action in support of various audit functional requests from regulatory audit and compliance partner organizations.
• Ensure effective interaction and collaboration with various business partners, sharing data and reporting designed to enhance operational effectiveness and quality.

Job Specifications
• BS in Accounting/Finance or similar
• A minimum of 5 years relevant tax experience or benefit financial claims experience
• CPA strongly preferred, or equivalent experience
• Prior people management experience strongly preferred.
• Advanced verbal and written communication and negotiation skills.
• Demonstrates superior relationship development and partnering skills, both internal and external stakeholders.
• Strong facilitation and presentation skills; ability to influence external/internal audiences at various levels.
• Demonstrates the ability to develop and interpret data analytics to identify trends and appropriate actions based on key business indicators/trends; ability to interpret cross-functional data and audits to determine root causes of errors.
• Ability to make balanced and objective decisions; ability to operate effectively in ambiguous or novel situations.
• Expert knowledge federal/state/municipal tax regulations, as required.
• Ability to handle multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
• Occasional cross-site travel required.

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.
$89,900.00-$169,900.00
Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not.
