General Summary:
This position will report to the VP, Global Total Rewards to develop strategy and direction for the health and wellbeing plans for the Enterprise. This role ensures competitive, compliant, innovative and cost-effective health and wellbeing offerings while aligning with Unum's overall Total Rewards strategy. This position will leverage a deep understanding of industry best practice, emerging innovations and effective preventive and wellbeing strategies to actively manage our portfolio in driving the health and wellbeing of our employees. It will lead the staff responsible for developing tactical plans and executing these strategies. It is also responsible for developing and maintaining timely management reporting on trends, ROI on programs, etc., and maintaining a close working relationship with Finance, Legal, and our vendors.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead the development, implementation, and oversight of a global health strategy that aligns with Unum's overall business objectives and prioritizes employee health and wellbeing, satisfaction, retention and compliance.
- Lead, mentor and develop a team of health and wellbeing professionals, fostering high performance and a collaborative culture focused on delivering exceptional value to employees and Unum.
- Leverage analytics, predictive modeling, employee insights and market intelligence to optimize our portfolio, including participation rates, cost effectiveness, satisfaction and ROI
- Oversee the financial performance of our programs, including annual budget, pricing negotiations and service agreements in close partnership with Finance and vendor partners.
- Provide leadership in day-to-day operations and offer additional support during high-demand periods such as open enrollment, ensuring smooth and efficient execution
- Ensure that programs comply with federal, state and local regulations, including ACA, ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA and FMLA
- Develop and implement robust governance models that ensure accountability for benefits delivery while maximizing compliance
- Partner with Corporate Communications and E/X teams to develop and implement effective communications strategies that educate employees about their benefits and drive engagement, awareness and adoption of programs.
Job Specifications
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Strong experience providing leadership to and managing company non-retirement benefit programs.
- Demonstrated experience as a thought-leader in employee benefits strategies and business results.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in health benefits strategies, design, plan management, and compliance.
- Demonstrated success in managing health plans through both strategy phases as well as implementation and evaluation.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills - ability to interpret technical/contractual language into easily understood text.
- Demonstrated skill as a leader and a manager with a broader business orientation than only the technical aspects of health care design and management.
- Strong negotiating, influencing, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong financial skills.
- Demonstrated experience leading organizational change with respect to benefits and an understanding of behavioral change strategies and demonstrated experience translating these strategies into health program design and communication.
- Track record for attracting, retaining, and developing exceptional talent.

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.
$114,100.00-$215,700.00
Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not. All benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of individual Plans.
