The CTCT division (a joint venture between Trimble and Caterpillar) develops positioning and control products for earthmoving and paving machines in the construction and mining industries, using technologies such as GPS, optical total stations, lasers, and sonics. The products are used in a range of applications where the operator of the machine benefits from having accurate horizontal and vertical guidance.

Job Summary:

On the Customer Segment team, we rely on insightful data to understand our target segments and make profitable strategic decisions. We're seeking an experienced data scientist with a natural curiosity and a creative mind; someone who is excited about determining the best way to answer hard questions. The ideal candidate will have expertise and experience with product usage analytics, as well as economics and market analysis. Strong communication skills are also vital. This person will need to be able to help communicate complex data strategies to a variety of stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
    • Parents and CTCT are able to determine a baseline level of success in a given Customer Segment
    • Parents and CTCT are able to track progress in given Customer Segments in order to double-down or course-course correct their segment strategy
    • Valuable segment-specific insights are available based on the way customers are learning about, buying and using our products
    • The Data Analytics Extraction team, as well as the Product Teams, have clear direction on what data hooks are needed for these insights
    • Parents and CTCT have an accurate estimation of the size and growth of particular Customer Segments
    • Publicly available data, industry publications, sales data, data-backed assumptions, customer research and other data sources are all being used in creative ways to answer segment questions.
    • Robust dashboards are established that allow us to monitor segment trends year-over-year, impacting our long term strategies and roadmaps.
    • Parents and CTCT clearly understand the Customer Segment Data Analytics and Market Analysis strategies, how they work and why they will provide high-trust insights that can be leveraged.
    • There is a very clear understanding of what the most critical questions are within a segment, and why they are so important.
    • Help stakeholders articulate the problems that need to be solved
    • Support the wider Customer Segment team in building strategies that ensure parent success.
    • Act as a servant leader and effect change through influence and inspiration
    • Collaborate within the wider Data Analytics Community of Practice, representing the needs of Customer Segment.
    • Perform additional tasks as required from time to time.
    • Constantly work to improve and develop both communication, leadership and people skills
Required Qualifications / Skills
  • 3 years+ experience in data science
  • Proficiency with data mining, mathematics, and statistical analysis
  • Advanced experience in pattern recognition and predictive modeling
  • Experience with Excel, PowerPoint, Tableau, SQL, and programming languages (ex: Java/Python, SAS)
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, research-oriented group that has several concurrent projects
  • Experience with a global product and teams
  • Managing multiple stakeholders
