Toyota's Integrated Vehicle Systems (IVS) Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated ADS (Automated Driving Systems) Evaluation Engineer to join us in creating the future of mobility as we develop next-generation Automated Driving Systems (ADS) and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

The primary responsibility of this role is to define performance requirements for and evaluate current and future ADAS (Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems). Example activities include preparing systems, vehicles, test equipment, and logistics for evaluation drives as well as completing and analyzing collected data from such drives.

We are looking for people with experience with simulated and in-vehicle evaluation of ADS/ADAS. We want to find those who demonstrate customer-first thinking, partners with internal and external teams, and the ability to proactively and aggressively deliver quality products to our customers.

What you'll be doing

As ADS/ADAS Evaluation Engineer in our Automated Performance and Applications Department (APAD), you'll bring our next-generation product to market. Here's what you'll be doing as a member of our team:

  • Evaluate: Work with stakeholders across the organization and Tier-1 suppliers to validate the performance of ADS/ADAS.
  • Conduct hands-on vehicle evaluations in closed-track, public-road, and simulated environments; collect and analyze data.
  • Configure, modify, and troubleshoot test vehicles, sensors, and data acquisition systems.
  • Develop, maintain, and standardize evaluation processes, protocols, test cases, and check sheets.

    • Act as customer champion: Promote customer needs through the voice of customer data, driving environment, gaps to competitor performance, and social trends to drive ADS/ADAS performance that delights our customers.
    • Lead function performance: Negotiate evaluation goals, plan timelines, and execute. Monitor issues and Key Performance Indicators (KPI) for decision-making. Engage regularly with stakeholders for alignment.
    • Present clear data-driven reports: Distill data to build a story through logical, easy-to-understand visualization. Communicate proactively with stakeholders toward consensus.
    • Develop software tools: Automate data collection, analysis, simulation, bench testing, and in-vehicle validation to improve testing efficiencies.
    • Contribute to the culture of continuous improvement: Provide data-driven proposals for feature modifications or enhancements to existing systems centered around the usability and acceptance of ADS/ADAS.
    • Collaborate with stakeholders: Form collaborative partnerships with stakeholders to realize efficiencies through the best use of technology and human resources.

What you bring

  • Bachelor of Science (or higher) degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics Engineering, Mechatronics, or equivalent technical fields.
  • Industry or academic experience in developing code for data analysis using PYTHON, C++, MATLAB, or similar programming languages.
  • Industry or academic experience developing software in shared repositories like Git or SVN.
  • Industry or academic experience developing application or post-processing software to facilitate analysis of test data from a vehicle or simulated environment.
  • Willingness to work overtime when necessary (~25% per week). (Yes/No)
  • Willingness to travel domestically and/or internationally when necessary (~ 25%).
  • A valid US driver's license.

What you may bring

  • Experience with vehicle evaluation and tuning.
  • Experience in evaluating ADS/ADAS, including modifying or creating new KPIs.
  • Experience in vehicle development at Toyota or Tier 1 Toyota supplier.
  • Working knowledge of radar, camera, and sonar systems in automotive applications.
  • Experience with OBD (On Board Diagnostic) and CAN (Controller Area Network) tools for diagnosing, troubleshooting, and testing. (Yes/No)
  • Experience with installing and troubleshooting data acquisition systems for vehicles or test benches (ex., CANoe, Vbox, RTK).
  • Experience with continuous integration tools, e.g., Azure DevOps Pipelines, Jenkins.
  • Experience using cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) to perform automated data analysis.
