Toyota's Integrated Vehicle Systems (IVS) Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated [Automated Design System Senior Engineer.

The primary responsibility of this role is to develop systems and software for future ADAS (Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems) on North American-developed vehicles.
Reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager of IVS, the person in this role will support the IVS department's objective.
What you'll be doing
- Developing System and Software Architecture for new ADAS features
- Develop Software: Use iterative processes to design algorithms and software using Python, C/C++, MATLAB/Simulink.
- Provide data-driven proposals for new ADS and ADAS features, subsequently supported by software implementations of the proposed algorithms.
- Improve System Performance for ADAS systems: Implement agile processes to refine function/system performance through iterative software engineering lifecycle including data analysis, predictive simulation, bench testing and in-vehicle validation.
- Simulation Testing: Develop simulation environment (Hardware in the loop and/or Software in the loop) and integrate software testing processes and tools to facilitate automated testing. Analyze data with automated quantitative methods to enable visualized tracking of performance indicators for decision making.
- Hands-on Product Testing: Drive prototype vehicles in simulated, closed track, and public road environments.
- Project Management: Plan, execute, and monitor project timelines towards goal achievement. Provide status and engage regularly with stakeholders including reports to executive level.
- Identify customer needs for ADAS through data driven assessment of technology, market, and social trends. Propose and develop innovative ADAS to commercialize high value customer needs.
- Lead architecture, design, development, and integration of innovative ADAS features that are focused on North American customer needs.
- Engineer system/functional performance requirements and hardware/software requirements to realize ADAS integration into vehicle platforms. Publish engineering specifications for release to vendors. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to commercialize high-quality ADAS into mass-production vehicles.
- Identify process needs or gaps in existing processes, improve existing processes, and create new sustainable standardized processes.
- Facilitate daily communication with Japanese counterparts to align global activities and drive consensus building.
- Mentor junior-level members in best practices for software engineering and ADAS development
- Ability to drive prototype test vehicles including the ability to gain any necessary driver certifications.
- Present project status and demonstrations to stakeholders ranging from Tier 2 suppliers to upper Toyota management.
What you bring
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, Robotics Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical engineering, or equivalent.
- Professional work experience as an ADAS and/or software engineer
- Experience in developing and testing embedded software for automotive production applications using Python, C, C++, MATLAB/Simulink or equivalent
- Proven leadership experience in guiding cross-functional teams through all phases of embedded software development, from requirements gathering to deployment, with a focus on effective communication, mentoring, and process improvements.
- Experience designing algorithms using camera, radar, lidar, sonar, or other sensor data..
- Experience in creating, analyzing, and coaching other members for best practices for code development following MISRA and CERT-C standards and ensuring software quality is met.
- Experience with continuous integration tools e.g. Azure DevOps Pipeline.
- Experience in testing, validating, and/or verifying embedded software.
- Experience using cloud platforms to perform simulations e.g. Azure, AWS.
- Experience evaluating of ADS/ADAS including quantitative performance comparisons against competitors.
- Experience with CAN (Controller Area Network) tools and troubleshooting.
- Experience with rapid problem investigation, root-cause investigation, and negotiations with stakeholders.
- Japanese OEM vehicle development experience in design and/or evaluation.
- Experience negotiating engineering concepts and design proposals with Japanese-based automotive companies and Tier 1 suppliers
- Ability to lead the evaluation of automated vehicle systems, including quantitative performance comparisons against benchmark competitors.
- Experience using or creating continuous integration/delivery systems for software.
- Strong organizational and negotiation skills, adept at managing priorities, aligning technical and business goals, and fostering collaboration to deliver high-quality results.
- Clear and concise presentation skills, both written and oral, with consideration to international audiences.

- Master's/PhD degree in Computer science, Computer engineering, Robotics Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical engineering, or equivalent.
- Experience supporting vehicle evaluations on proving grounds or on public roads
- Experience in Electronics hardware development and vehicle integration
- Experience supporting vehicle evaluations on proving grounds or on public roads
- Experience in one or more of the following areas (i) Electronics system development (ii) Electronic control systems (iii) Path planning (iv) HMI development (v) Vehicle dynamics
- Experience in ADS technologies such as mapping, localization, path planning or control
- Passion for and experience with automated vehicles or robotics.
- Experience in developing or evaluating ADS technologies such as mapping, localization, path planning, and/or control.
