Job Description
The Identity/First Party Data team is looking for a senior front-end software engineer to develop and enhance user and user data management experiences that comply with privacy, data security and legal requirements. The work requires analyzing business needs, gathering requirements, understanding and applying privacy regulations, developing features, and supporting testing, deployment, and maintenance activities. You will work independently on moderately complex projects, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver user-centric web applications and experiences.
The Identity team is within the Monetization engineering organization that focuses on generating revenue through a variety of channels including subscriptions and advertising. This role will provide a window into the wide variety of projects and initiatives The Washington Post undertakes to generate revenue while navigating the increasingly complex web of privacy rules and data security considerations. Generating revenue is essential to continue the world class journalism The Post is providing and this role is at the forefront of those efforts.

- Develop web applications primarily using React and Node, ensuring they are scalable, performant, secure, and user-friendly.

- This role requires limited on-call hours. An on-call schedule will be determined a couple of months after you join, considering team size and other variables.

- BA/BS in Computer Science or a related technical field or equivalent practical experience.
- 3+ years experience with full-stack development with React, Node, or Python is required.
- Proficiency in TypeScript for building robust and maintainable web application.
- Exposure to back-end technologies such as Java EE, Spring Boot, and JUnit is a plus.
- Experience writing unit tests and integration tests to ensure code quality; experience with Playwright is a plus.
- Exposure to engineering tools such as DataDog, Splunk, and Catchpoint.
- Practical experience with Application servers (Wildfly, Tomcat) and Web servers (httpd, Nginx).
- Working knowledge of relational databases such as Oracle, MySQL, Postgres and NoSQL databases such as Redis, DynamoDB, MongoDB.
- Experience with DevOps technologies such as Docker and Jenkins.
- Hands on experiencing developing, deploying and maintaining systems using AWS services such as ECS, EC2, RDS, S3, Lambda, SQS/SNS.
- Strong problem-solving skills, capable of handling moderately complex challenges.
- Knowledge of best practices in software development, including testing, deployment, and code reviews.
- Ability to work independently with general supervision, setting day-to-day priorities.
- Excellent communication skills for collaborating with internal teams and providing technical input.

- Ability to ensure cross-browser functionality and troubleshoot browser-specific issues.
- Experience in performance optimization debugging to improve load times, core web vitals, and user experience.

The salary range for this position is:
119,700.00 - 199,300.00 USD Annual
The actual salary within this range will depend on individual skills, experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements. This position may be eligible for a bonus or incentive program, and a member of the Talent Acquisition team will discuss bonus payment terms and conditions during the interview process.
