Job Description

The Washington Post relies quite heavily on data-informed decision making both at a strategic and operational level. Over the years, The Post has experienced a significant increase in traffic and engagement across various on-and-off platform channels. The increased data volume and velocity coupled with new data sources and complexity has created new opportunities and challenges. To address these challenges and gain maximum benefits from our data, The Washington Post is seeking a Product Manager in our Data & AI team who will oversee our product analytics function within the wider product organization.

The position will be based in our Washington, DC office - reporting into the Product Management Lead for Data & AI.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to capture requirements, maintain clear and accurate feature documentation, and create user stories.
  • Define and execute a product vision and roadmap focused on data engineering
  • Turn raw data into insights and knowledge through data visualization tools
  • Partner with The Washington Post's newsroom, social media, audio/video, and live events teams to champion their product analytics needs
  • Participate in daily Scrum ceremonies and proactively identify and help mitigate release blockers.
  • Use data and research to generate actionable insights and recommend opportunities to evolve the data and analytics infrastructure so that we build scalable solutions that can grow with us.
  • Lead through influence by building trust and alignment with clear, proactive communication about your plans, progress, successes, and setbacks.
Requirements

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or professional experience in a technical field or equivalent experience building and shipping technical products.
  • 3+ years as a product owner or product manager with a strong preference for experience managing data and analytics products.
  • Experience in AWS, including Redshift, and analyzing, social media, podcasts, and video platform data to tell a story about customer engagement; plus developing and launching products within one or more of the following: Cloud, SaaS, enterprise, internal tools, and/or analytics products.
  • Understand the life cycle and development of data services by driving product vision, go-to-market strategy, and design discussions.
  • Experience creating strategic product roadmaps and working with cross-functional teams.
  • Passion for supporting independent journalism and the industry at large through applying innovation and agile best practices to to delight customers and create meaningful personalized experiences
Preferred Qualifications
  • Expertise with Business Intelligence (BI) tools like Tableau, Looker Studio, or Apache Superset
  • Knowledge of APIs, data workflows, analytics or data products, cloud infrastructure, software as a service, big data, data engineering processes, security and privacy, development and operations, or machine learning.
  • Strong data, analytics, and technical skills - including SQL to drive product analytics and insights.
  • Ability to influence multiple stakeholders without direct authority.

Benefits may vary based on the job, full-time or part-time schedule, location, and collectively bargained status.

The salary range for this position is:
98,800.00 - 164,600.00 USD Annual

The actual salary within this range will depend on individual skills, experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements. This position may be eligible for a bonus or incentive program, and a member of the Talent Acquisition team will discuss bonus payment terms and conditions during the interview process.
