Job Description

The Washington Post's Climate & Environment Department is seeking a talented journalist to lead a team of reporters who cover how some of the world's most powerful actors shape environmental outcomes and the impacts of those decisions on people and the planet. This editor will play an essential part in pursuing our mission of providing the world's most authoritative coverage of climate and the environment.

This editor should be prepared to oversee ambitious enterprise and accountability reporting in the U.S. and abroad while also running coverage of significant news developments. We also encourage unconventional and creative approaches to reporting and storytelling. The editor's ambition for the work should be matched by an ambition for it to be read and shared by our audience.

Responsibilities:
  • Identify high-impact targets that will be of wide interest to the public.
  • Excel at leading long-term enterprise and ideas-driven stories.
  • Craft stories that are innovative and immersive, employing visual storytelling as well as powerful writing and data visualization.
  • Collaborate deeply with colleagues in the Climate & Environment Department and across the newsroom to produce stories that are as compelling as possible.
  • Uphold The Post's commitment to fair and rigorous reporting at every stage of the process.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • A track record of producing top-tier journalism.
  • Strong line-editing skills.
  • A high metabolism and eagerness to pursue news.
  • Familiarity with national and international climate and environmental policy.
This position is based in our Washington, D.C., newsroom.

Compensation and Benefits:

The salary range for this position is: $122,500.00 -- $204,100.00. The actual salary within this range will depend on individual skills, experience and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements
