Job Description

The Washington Post is seeking a dynamic and results-oriented Engagement Manager to join our subscriptions marketing team. In this pivotal role, you will lead strategic efforts to maximize subscriber engagement, drive product adoption, and enhance overall subscriber retention. Your work will directly contribute to increasing customer lifetime value and strengthening subscriber loyalty.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Engagement and Retention, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product, data science, analytics, finance, and brand marketing, to design and execute comprehensive engagement strategies. Your technical, creative, and analytical expertise will be crucial in developing personalized experiences that resonate with our diverse subscriber base.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the strategy and execution of global lifecycle marketing campaigns aimed at building loyalty, improving engagement, and increasing customer lifetime value. Focus on enhancing the customer journey across all touchpoints and marketing channels.
  • Partner with stakeholders across brand marketing, product, news and analytics to develop, execute, and project manage when necessary engagement initiatives that align with broader business objectives and enhance the subscriber experience.
  • Oversee the creation and optimization of subscriber journeys, with a particular focus on the critical first 100 days, to ensure proper onboarding and long-term retention.
  • Implement and refine CRM strategies based on consumer insights, utilizing data to optimize engagement and retention efforts.
  • Collaborate with the Retention Manager to develop and implement strategies tailored to different subscriber cohorts, ensuring targeted and effective engagement.
  • Identify and capitalize on opportunities to enhance subscriber engagement through automated, triggered marketing campaigns that resonate with individual subscriber needs and behaviors.
  • Manage and mentor a team member, providing guidance and oversight to achieve engagement and retention goals, while fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or 4-5 years of professional experience in digital media, marketing, or eCommerce, with specific experience in subscription-based business models.
  • Proven experience in managing and developing a team, with a focus on nurturing talent and fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in data tracking and analysis tools for interpreting customer data, identifying trends, and optimizing marketing efforts..
  • Highly detail-oriented with excellent project management skills, ensuring effective execution of marketing initiatives and timely delivery of results.
  • Demonstrated ability to monitor campaign impact, interpret A/B test outcomes, and identify performance trends to drive continuous optimization.
  • Strong collaborative mindset with a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and emotional intelligence, enabling effective management of relationships and team dynamics.
  • Proficiency in various marketing tools, with foundational skills in copywriting and graphic design to support campaign execution across multiple platforms.

Benefits may vary based on the job, full-time or part-time schedule, location, and collectively bargained status.

The salary range for this position is:
91,800.00 - 153,000.00 USD Annual

The actual salary within this range will depend on individual skills, experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements. This position may be eligible for a bonus or incentive program, and a member of the Talent Acquisition team will discuss bonus payment terms and conditions during the interview process.
