Job Description
The Washington Post is seeking a Business Affairs Manager to join its Adveritsing Solutions and Marketing team. This team supports the team that creates custom advertising campaigns on behalf of our brand partners. As Business Affairs Manager, you will support the larger Client Solutions organization with all aspects of structuring, negotiating and advising on a wide variety of business matters, including legal agreements relating to the development, production, and acquisition of original branded content. The role will have a wide range of responsibilities including business term development, negotiation support as well as independent negotiation of vendor and production service agreements, risk management, dispute resolution, and supporting and advising internal stakeholders on the contents and parameters of our deals.

- Contract drafting, negotiating and advisory responsibilities for WP Client Services team
- Draft, revise, review, and negotiate media vendor agreements, technology vendor agreements, talent agreements, license agreements, statements of work, LOAs, and other legal documents
- Advise on all Business Affairs matters for development, production, post production, sales, distribution, and service of all business endeavors from a legal, financial, production and strategic perspective
- Review provided advertiser content for potential legal issues
- Work with cross-functional partners including Legal, Finance, Client Partnerships, Product Marketing, Operations and WP Creative Group.
- Liase with insurance, risk and compliance teams where needed.
- Participate in project scoping discussions
- Help identify media program deal points
- Serve as key liaison between media partner and client's legal teams
- Work with internal counsel handling production, legal and rights and clearance matters
- Analyze deal opportunities and formulate business strategies with respect to various development and production matters
- Review creative materials with Agency teams to ensure compliance with Client standards and legal requirements
- Oversee corporate compliance with contractual and legal obligations in regards to Media and Production
- Working with Producers to review and manage third party contracts/SOWs to ensure compliance
- Maintaining department business affairs files (signed agreements, e-mails, etc.) from all projects
- Assist with handling of rights clearance issues
- Identify and resolve legal process issues
- Work with Agency teams to evaluate and solve production and contract concerns
- Advise Agency teams and Client on key legal /business issues, rules, regulations, and best practices
- 5+ years of experience in Business Affairs
- Business Affairs experience with media properties and creative agencies
- Proven experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating legal agreements
- Experience with social networking, platform integrations, publishing platforms, print & digital media
- Experience negotiating strategic transactions
- Must be eligible to work in the US
