Job Description

The Associate Director of Events is a leadership role within the Washington Post Live and Events Group, responsible for overseeing the infrastructure, production and logistics for Washington Post Live journalism programs, as well as all internal and company events held in The Post's D.C. headquarters. This role demands a visionary approach to event execution, with a focus on innovation and efficiency. The Associate Director will manage a diverse team encompassing logistics, engineering and production, and will develop frameworks for events beyond The Post's primary venue. This position requires refining policies and processes to streamline numerous in-person and virtual events, managing event budgets domestic and international, and utilize reporting and analytics to drive decision-making across the organization.

This role reports to the Head of Events and Promotions in the Brand and Events organization.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and oversee event production and logistics for Washington Post Live, including in-person events in Washington, D.C., across the U.S., and internationally, as well as numerous virtual programs annually.
  • Manage production and logistics for internal events at the Washington Post Live Center, a premier event venue in D.C.
  • Develop and implement event strategies that reflect The Post's mission and core values while ensuring innovation and cost efficiency. Collaborate with various stakeholders to achieve organizational goals.
  • Empower and lead a large team of managers, technicians, and coordinators, providing logistical and technical support for large-scale events and up to three virtual events per day.
  • Oversee event budgets and manage the RFP vendor process, particularly for out-of-town and international events, as well as internal event guidelines for the use of The Post's headquarters venue.
  • Enhance efficiency and communication to ensure deadlines and event objectives are consistently met.
Qualifications
  • 7-10+ years of managing multiple, managing multiple, complex large-scale events.
  • Demonstrated success in managing events across various venues and markets, with expertise in handling complex budgets.
  • Proven ability to lead and inspire a collaborative, high-paced team
  • Strong analytical and creative skills with exceptional organizational abilities and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Composure under pressure and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Effective communicator with internal and external partners, showcasing excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong negotiation skills and resourcefulness.
  • Positive, proactive attitude with a solutions-oriented approach.
  • Ability to build and leverage cross-departmental relationships and resources.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

Benefits may vary based on the job, full-time or part-time schedule, location, and collectively bargained status.

The salary range for this position is:
121,400.00 - 202,400.00 USD Annual

The actual salary within this range will depend on individual skills, experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements. This position may be eligible for a bonus or incentive program, and a member of the Talent Acquisition team will discuss bonus payment terms and conditions during the interview process.
