Job Description

The Washington Post's Climate & Environment Department is seeking an accomplished journalist to join our team in the pursuit of high-impact accountability stories that will hold policymakers, private actors and other powerful institutions to account. This role will play an essential part in pursuing our mission of providing the world's most authoritative coverage of climate and the environment.

We are looking for a journalist who can unearth revelations that will enrich the public's understanding of the forces helping shape the trajectory of the planet and their implications for people's health and prosperity.

Responsibilities:
  • Identify high-impact targets - both short-term accountability stories and major projects - that will be of wide interest to the public.
  • Maintain a high level of ambition to take on difficult assignments and hidden stories that deserve public scrutiny - whether those are occurring inside governments, companies or in far-flung places.
  • Employ a wide variety of reporting techniques, including source development, documents, data and field work.
  • Collaborate deeply with colleagues in the Climate & Environment Department and across the newsroom to produce stories that are as powerful as possible.
  • Show a strong commitment to fair and accurate reporting at every stage of the process.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • A track record of producing exclusive stories and investigations.
  • A high metabolism and disciplined, rigorous approach to reporting.
  • Strong analytical, data and writing skills.
  • A commitment to engaging in a range of storytelling forms, including visually led approaches.
This position is based in our Washington, D.C., newsroom.

Compensation and Benefits:

The salary range for this position is: $ 97,400.00 - $162,300.00 . The actual salary within this range will depend on individual skills, experience and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
