Supervises one or more small accounting teams. Ensures timely preparation and review of all required regulatory filings. Advises in annual budgeting and prepare accounting reports for executive leadership. Reviews work submitted by accountants and manages accounting close processes. Performs analysis on organizational or business unit financial and accounting metrics for presentation to leadership.

May spend a portion of time performing the work of those they supervise. Assists with management decisions and activities.

A day in the Life:

  • Manages staff, which may include interviewing and selection, job description preparation, professional development, goal setting, performance management, coaching and mentoring, employee counseling, and separations. Approves courses of action on salary administration, hiring, corrective action, and terminations. Reviews and approves time records, expense reports, requests for leave, and overtime.
  • Identifies exposures and recommends corrective action to management.
  • Monitors process controls to ensure compliance with SOX including internal controls.
  • Responds to information requests from staff at all levels and all functions within the organization.
  • Completes special projects as directed.
  • Prepares reports to management summarizing activities.
  • Coordinates responses to audit requests timely with accurate and complete support.

Keys to Success:

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance/Accounting or related courses

Experience

Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 3 to 5 years) or equivalent and relevant combination of education, training, & experience.

1+ year of leadership responsibility is an advantage

In some cases an equivalency, consisting of a combination of appropriate education, training and/or directly related experience, will be considered sufficient for an individual to meet the requirements of the role.

Management Role

Directly supervises administrative support and / or technical staff.

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

  • Ability to access and use a variety of computer software developed both in-house and off-the-shelf.
  • Able to communicate information and ideas so others will understand; with the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
  • Frequently interacts with others, relates sensitive information to diverse organizations both internally & externally.
  • Ability to apply basic principles to tackle conceptual issues.
  • Performs a wide range of variable tasks as decided by variable demands and changing conditions with little predictability as to the occurrence. Ability to perform under stress. Ability to multi-task.
  • Regular and consistent attendance.
