Located in Florence, KY and will support the Customer Channels Group (CCG) at Thermo Fisher Scientific.

The Sr Manager of Distribution will be the senior leader in the operation of a distribution center, coaching an operations manager and supervisors in providing high quality services to the facility's customer base. This will be accomplished through the implementation and maintenance of internal operating standards that drive efficiency, customer satisfaction, and a positive employee culture. Additionally, as the Site Leader, they will assume responsibility for site-wide initiatives, fostering employee engagement, and maintaining a safe, efficient, and high quality operating environment.

A Day in the Life

  • Responsible for overall distribution center cost, service, compliance, and safety through productivity and performance metrics including all receiving, put-away, picking, packing, shipping, inventory control and facility maintenance.
  • Leads all aspects of the operation using agreed upon metrics that highlight service indicators to meet the company's goals: Lines filled per hour, service levels, delivery reliability, and on-time performance.
  • Leads in a manner that is consistent with our organizational culture, which is based on four values: Integrity, Intensity, Innovation, and Involvement and on open communication.
  • Drives the team's focus on safety and obtains and maintains 100% compliance in all required training.
  • Monitors, reports and controls facility expenses to ensure plans and targets are achieved. Uses matrix to positively effect regional performance such as: cost per line, book section of P & L, inventory, and labor costs.
  • Takes an active role in the hiring process for all levels of employees. Ensures performance management and development processes are conducted in a timely manner. Recommends and implements employee corrective action when appropriate, partnering with Human Resources. Oversees cross-training as required by the cross training matrix.
  • Ensures policies and procedures are followed maintaining compliance with regulatory and operational procedures.
  • Reviews all internal reports to measure and assess operational effectiveness, to ensure timely shipment of all orders to customers and adherence to facility goals.
  • Works directly with the North America Sr. Director to ensure total P & L goals and objectives are met.
  • Ensures storage of materials is in keeping with State and Federal FDA, Board of Pharmacy, DEA, ATF, EPA and OSHA regulations.
  • Delivers with decision making skills, resolving problems that prevent a timely and efficient handling of inbound and outbound orders. Makes recommendations regarding workflow and overtime when needed. Applies problem solving methodology to address site specific problems impacting material flow, efficiency, quality, or the employee culture.
  • Assists in preparing and maintaining SOP's for the site.
  • Assumes the duties of the Supervisors in their functional areas in the event of their absence.
  • Interact with MIS to ensure all equipment is in proper working order. Communicates with maintenance department to confirm preventative maintenance is completed on all equipment and internal assets.

Keys to Success:

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, or a related field, preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience

  • At least 7 years of progressive management experience in a distribution, operations, or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with automation and/or WMS software is preferred.
  • Manufacturing Experience preferred
  • Experience with Lean concepts, Six Sigma or other process improvement techniques is preferred.
  • Possesses a current knowledge of regulatory requirements including DOT and HAZMAT.
  • Knowledge of operational safety requirements.
  • ISO 9001 audit experience preferred
  • Must have a basic understanding of transportation related issues.

  • Possesses the right leadership capabilities to coach and empower teammates along with excellent interpersonal skills enabling them to relate well with employees, peers, various levels of management, and to build customer relationships.
  • Exceptional proficiency in written and verbal communication with customers and various management levels of the organization.
  • Adept organizational skills to meet targets, support their team in task prioritization, and lead multiple projects concurrently.
  • Computer literate with intermediate skills in Microsoft Suite, Outlook, Word, and Excel.

Work Environment:

  • Limited travel required.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in a warehouse environment with no climate control in the operations area
  • Perform the supervisor's and other jobs when short staffed or as needed.
