Summary:

Provide guidance and support to EHS Specialists I, II, internal and external clients on EHS matters. Provide EHS support to the team, operations, and Pharmaceutical Development Services (PDS). Ensure the site follows EHS regulations and practices. Develop best practices for the site and shares best practices and expertise with other sites.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide Industrial Hygiene (IH) Support
    • Leads all facets of the IH Program at the site
    • Conduct IH assessments on existing products and evaluates technologies to improve containment.
    • Development of Occupational Exposure Limits (OELs) and IH analytical methods
    • Development of IH sampling plans and sampling strategies
    • Written industrial hygiene reports and presentations
    • Make recommendations for improving containment, engineering controls etc., where necessary
    • Participate in work-teams to evaluate containment of existing processes and implements containment plans.
    • Lead Designated Substances Program
    • Lead Industrial & Office Ergonomics program
  • Provide EHS support to the department and the site:
    • Incident investigations
    • JHSC audit finding closures
    • Risk assessments
    • Department specific training
    • Client & auditor support
  • Develop and Implement EHS Programs: Develop audit protocols, audits programs, procedures and practices for the EHS Programs
  • New Project Risk Assessments
    • Attend Kick-Off Meetings and ongoing Project Meetings.
    • Evaluate containment/industrial hygiene for new projects
    • Potent Compound active-specific procedures and training
    • Liaise with Project Managers, Process Engineers and Clients.
  • Provide guidance, back-up and support to other EH&S team members and Health Centre.
  • Support Respiratory Protection Program and Fit Testing.
  • Perform alternating or rotating shift work (as required).

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Bachelor's of Science in related field
  • EHS Certificate or Diploma
  • Professional Designation -Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).

Experience:

  • Minimum 8 years of previous EHS experience
  • Minimum 8 years of Industrial Hygiene training/experience
  • Minimum 5 years of Chemical, manufacturing, or pharmaceutical work experience
  • Previous experience conducting presentations / training for various levels within an organization. Previous client or project management experience

Equivalency:

Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant work experience may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Able to work in a fast-paced team environment. High integrity for dealing with confidential information. Demonstrated professionalism. Excellent interpersonal skills. Demonstrated computer proficiency with Microsoft Office programs. Proficiency with the English Language.

Standards and Expectations:

Follow all Environmental Health & Safety Policies and Procedures. Work collaboratively with fellow team members, modelling positive team principles and partnering to meet project and departmental objectives. Carry out all duties within strict compliance to Patheon quality SOPs and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP). Maintain workspace in a clean and orderly fashion. Actively engage in and adhere to departmental systems in order to maintain a smooth and efficient workflow (visual management, scheduling systems, etc.). Be client and patient conscious at all times. Understand Key Performance Indicators and strive to improve the performance of the team by identifying areas for system improvements and engage in problem solving. Models positive thinking and is open to change, motivating the team to adapt to shifts in priorities and new ways of working. Proactively identify areas for improvement in the execution of procedures. Communicate risks to timelines in a proactive manner. Consistently strives to improve skills and knowledge in related field.

Physical Requirements:

Light physical effort and fatigue. Walks, sits, or stands for limited periods. May require occasional equipment operation including keyboard equipment. Lifts light items for limited duration. Typically located in a comfortable indoor area. There may be regular exposure to mild physical discomfort from factors such as dust, fumes or odours, temperature extremes, loud noise, strong drafts, or bright lights. Use of Personal Protective equipment may be required and may include any of the following: safety glasses, safety shoes, lab coat, gloves, hair net, beard cover, safety apron, respirator on occasionally.
