Overview

As a Senior Manager of Operations and Business Systems Project Management at our Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO), you will be pivotal in leading project management efforts within the space. Operation includes supply chain, quality control/assurance, manufacturing, and engineering. The ideal candidate will also have robust IT systems deployment, integration, and business process redesign background.

Your primary responsibility will be to lead a team of strategic project managers and ensure that projects are driven efficiently, meet quality standards, and are delivered on time and within budget. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence. By driving high value strategic projects to successful completion, you will improve the division's ability to efficiently and cost effectively manufacture and deliver innovative drugs to those in need.

Key Responsibilities

Project Management

  • Lead Strategic PMO Operations team. Mentor and develop strategic project managers.
  • Lead project resource allocation.
  • Improve maturity of PMO organization
  • Handle project portfolios and lead portfolio reviews
  • Lead and run sophisticated, global projects in operations, including supply chain, quality control/assurance, manufacturing, and engineering.
  • Develop detailed project plans, including timelines, resource allocation, and budget management.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and to budget
  • Identify and lead project risks, issues, and dependencies, developing mitigation strategies as needed.
  • Conduct regular project reviews and status updates, communicating them to senior leadership and customers.
  • Identify project KPIs and success metrics. Resolve and track value derived from projects or programs.
  • Develop and implement organisational change strategies required for project implementation and sustainability.

Process Improvement

  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives using LEAN, Six Sigma, and 5S methodologies.
  • Develop and implement process improvement strategies to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Conduct lessons learned sessions to drive continuous improvement and share standard methodologies across the organization.

Quality, Supply Chain and Manufacturing

  • Collaborate with quality control/assurance teams to maintain high product quality standards and regulatory compliance through leadership, development and implementation of quality strategic programs and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with supply chain teams to ensure timely delivery of materials and products through leadership, development and implementation of supply chain strategic programs and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to optimize production processes and improve operational efficiency through leadership, development and implementation of manufacturing strategic programs and initiatives.

IT Systems Deployment and Integration:

  • Be responsible for the deployment and integration of IT systems, ensuring flawless operation and alignment with business needs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT, operations, and business units, to ensure effective system integration.
  • Identify and resolve any issues or obstacles during system deployment and integration.

Business Process Redesign and Deployment:

  • Lead initiatives to redesign and optimize business processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Work closely with business units to understand and incorporate their needs into process redesign efforts.
  • Develop and implement new business processes, ensuring they are aligned with organizational goals and objectives.

Team Leadership and Collaboration

  • Play a pivotal role in fostering collaboration across business units and manufacturing sites with the goal of harmonizing processes and harnessing network expertise to improve the productivity and competitiveness of the network
  • Lead cross-functional project teams, ensuring clear roles and responsibilities and effective collaboration.
  • Cultivate a positive team environment, encouraging open communication, mutual respect, and collaboration.
  • Innovate and lead PMO maturity initiatives
  • Develop positive relationships with internal and external partners, including customers, consultants, and vendors.
  • Mentor and direct junior project managers.

Qualifications

Education

  • Minimum bachelor's degree in a science or technical field (e.g., Chemistry, Engineering, Biology, Chemical Engineering). MBA a plus
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification required
  • Organisational Change Certification (ProSci methodology preferred) required

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of project/program management experience in a highly regulated industry, with a solid track record of successfully leading projects from start to finish.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in manufacturing operations, quality control/assurance, or supply chain management.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in Drug Substance Division.
  • Shown experience virtually leading culturally teams with varied strengths.
  • Tried experience leading cross functional projects in a matrixed organization.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Great understanding of formal project management methodologies and tools.
  • Hands-on IT project/program management experience
  • Advanced customer management foresight
  • Advanced knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies (LEAN, Six Sigma, 5S).
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and run multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present to senior leadership and customers.
  • Advanced leadership and communication skills, with the ability to empower and influence outcomes through responsibility, ownership, and grit.
  • Exceptional conflict resolution and facilitation skills. A strategic demeanor and ability to see the "big picture" and identify connections and interplay is required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio) and project management software (SmartSheet, MS Project).
  • Strong business insight and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to thrive in a changing and a fast-paced environment.
