How will you make an impact?

The R&D Scientist II will be supporting a cross-functional team working toward the design and commercialization of new cell culture media and media supplement products. They will apply chemistry and spectroscopy skills to conduct established assays and play a role in developing novel analytical methods.

A Day in the Life:

  • Operate autonomously or with limited guidance from supervisors or senior researchers.
  • Develop and support quantitation of small/larger molecules with chromatography (UHPLC, LC-MS, IC, or ICP-MS) methods.
  • Support spectroscopic method (e.g., FTIR, Raman, XRF) development for identity testing of biotherapeutic ancillary raw materials as well as process monitoring.
  • Assist in troubleshooting existing products and work with internal and external customers to implement solutions.
  • Write protocols and reports, present data, and work across multiple groups.

Keys to Success:

Education

  • Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering Biology, Bioengineering, Biochemistry, or other related field (Master's - or bachelor's plus 3 years- relevant industry experience)

Experience

  • Previous experience with Analytical techniques such as HPLC/UHPLC, IC, ICP-MS, GC-MS, or LC-MS technology is required.
  • Basic knowledge of Chemometrics, qualitative/quantitative multivariate modeling, and vibrational spectroscopy, such as FTIR and Raman, spectroscopies is desired.
  • Good understanding and working knowledge of chemistry principles, such as acid/base chemistry, sample solubility, and precipitation, as it relates to sample preparation.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Ability to work both independently and in a team setting.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and presentation skills.
  • Able to perform reliably under pressure while prioritizing and handling multiple projects or activities.
