Job Description

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. is seeking a Scientist III, Manufacturing Sciences to join our world-class team in Cork, Ireland. As a key member of the Process Development Services team, you will play a crucial role in the development and manufacturing of new and existing processes related to API particle formation processes, including crystallization, isolation, and drying.

  • Provide technical input and support for crystallization and solid-state testing for the introduction of new products to the Cork site, including method development, validation/qualification, and transfer of methods to clients as required.
  • Offer crystallization input within the Materials Science team, including technical leadership and consultation.
  • Analyze, explain, and communicate non-routine material characterization data to the team and other important parties.
  • Collaborate with other teams to support the transfer of manufacturing processes in and out of the site.
  • Communicate regularly with clients, providing updates on project progress, hosting client visits, addressing technical queries, and delivering client project requirements to defined timelines.
  • Develop and expand scientific and technical knowledge through reading peer-reviewed scientific literature, attending conferences, and relevant training.
  • Ensure the delivery of projects within the required timeframe and achieve the site's technical, quality, and safety metrics.
  • Participate in Risk Assessment processes for changes related to API processes affecting particle properties.

Requirements:

  • Relevant qualifications such as a BSc, Masters, or PhD in crystallization, pharmaceutical materials science, chemistry, physical properties testing, or other relevant field. Equivalent experience in industry or academia will also be considered.
  • Experience in physical properties method development and validation.
  • Significant experience with X-Ray Powder Diffraction, Microscopy, Particle Size Analysis, Thermal Analysis, Surface Properties Testing.
  • Proven ability to think critically and innovatively.
  • Great organizational skills and troubleshooting ability.
  • Excellent technical writing skills and oral communication.
  • Knowledge and experience within a pharmaceutical manufacturing and chemical development environment is desirable.
  • Strong laboratory skills and an excellent understanding of the relevance of the data generated.
