Summary:

Division: Unity Lab Services, part of Thermo Fisher Scientific, provides critical on-site instrument services at customer locations. Our colleagues are passionate about improving customer experience and service operations efficiency. The primary territory is the San Diego area. The FSE will also support the Southern California region. A fleet vehicle is provided to the Field Service Engineer to allow for travel to multiple customers in the defined service area.

You have the opportunity to manage various aspects of field service support and customer relationships within our Laboratory Essentials (LE). In addition, you will provide complete services on laboratory equipment, including repairs, preventative maintenance, installation, and compliance services, while being an advocate for Thermo Fisher Scientific.

Our ideal candidate will be customer-focused, an advocate for Thermo Fisher Scientific in customer laboratories, drive focus and improve customer delivery and overall experience, and be eager to drive growth.

What will you do?

  • Perform on-site repair, maintenance, calibration, and installation of general laboratory equipment products such as incubators, centrifuges, ultra-low temp freezers, washers, etc.
  • Will work in conjunction with the scheduling department to meet the needs of our customers.
  • Provide on-site training relative to system service, maintenance, and basic operation.
  • Arrange their own travel accommodations and submit expense reports on time.
  • Maintain spare parts inventory.
  • Maintaining open communication with local and internal teams to enable delivering improved service. Document all reasonable actions regarding the scope of work on time.
  • Provides a communication link between the customer and the company to help ensure that effective service is provided to the customer.

How will you get there?

Education

  • Associate's Degree in Engineering or Bio-Medical Engineering highly desired or High School Diploma required previous equivalent experience.
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Bio-Medical Engineering preferred.
  • Accredited trade school certification- HVAC/R or Electronic Technician preferred.
  • Prior experience and familiarity with refrigeration systems are highly preferred with EPA Certification.

Experience

  • Detailed knowledge of test equipment is required-for example, multi-meters, pressure sensors, mass flow controllers, or similar analog devices.
  • Proven organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks with different priorities
  • Strong communication, great work ethic, great teammate, problem-solving skills, ability to balance multiple priorities, and a willingness to learn.
  • Experienced at solving challenges and finding opportunities (Find a Better Way Every Day) with a sense of purpose, high energy, and passion.
  • Strong communication skills and customer focus to deliver excellent customer service.
  • Ability to operate computers, smartphones, and related software efficiently.
  • Ability to work independently diagnosing and fixing with schematics, diagrams, service manuals, and other user documentation.

Work Environment

  • Ability to drive frequently within the territory and travel overnight if required.
  • Must be available to travel overnight up to 50% within the territory or other regions as needed.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs with assistance and carry 25-30 Lbs. continuously throughout the day.
  • Ability to bend, squat, stretch, and reach daily in a service function.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a safe driving record.

Compensation and Benefits
The hourly pay range estimated for this position based in California is $31.73-$42.31.
