Summary

This bachelor's thesis focuses on the redesign of the so-called reagent carousel in our benchtop IVD instrument, to accommodate the next generation of reagent bottles. The current reagent carousel is tailored to fit the existing bottles, but with the introduction of new bottles, an update is necessary to ensure compatibility without compromising the instrument's throughput.

Key considerations in this redesign include adhering to plastic design guidelines to ensure durability and manufacturability of the new carousel. Additionally, the automation aspects of the instrument must be evaluated to address potential issues, particularly ensuring that the pipettor robot can access all reagent positions effectively. This involves a thorough analysis of the spatial constraints and movement capabilities of the robotic components.

The goal of this thesis is to deliver a design solution that seamlessly integrates the new reagent bottles into the instrument, maintaining or enhancing the instrument's operational efficiency. The proposed design will be validated through a series of prototype tests to ensure that it meets the required performance standards and operational criteria.
