Responsibilities:
- Underwrite presale, renewal and plan changes on group benefit prospects and policyholders on behalf of our clients.
- Provide consultative services to GRP clients on presale cases based on authority limits. Consultative services can include rationale for risk evaluation, industry assessment, product knowledge and evaluation of appeals.
- Apply all GRP Underwriting guidelines when making decisions.
- Demonstrate proven understanding of the elements of pricing including risk factors, manual rates, risk classification, experience rating and pricing targets.
- Proactively manage desktop and assigned book of business including a combination of smaller manually rated and large, more complex cases.
- Performs in depth analysis on case opportunities to develop Formula, Needed and Proposed pricing levels.
- Understand pricing tool outputs and logic behind how all tools work.
- May perform analyses on client company's entire Life, AD&D, STD, or LTD book of business.
- Works directly with client company representatives from Sales, Underwriting and Leadership positions as needed.
- Understand clients and GRP sales goals and contribute to results.
- May perform underwriting audits internally and at client companies.
- Proactively develop and maintain excellent working relationships with all internal and external teammates.
- Participate in and apply training received to develop and continually refine craft.
- May train other underwriting staff, here and at client companies.
- Participate in strategic projects within department and may lead/manage select projects for continuous improvement and process efficiency initiatives.
- Work independently with final decision-making authority within assigned authority levels.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree strongly preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- 3 + years of Group Benefits underwriting and pricing experience including experience rating.
- Solid knowledge of Life, LTD and STD group benefits product
- Reinsurance experience desirable but not required.
- Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining solid relationships with all internal and external business partners.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
- An ability to think analytically about business problems, make recommendations and propose solutions.
- High energy self-starter, who is resilient and has an entrepreneurial spirit.
- Demonstration of solid time, organizational, and desk management skills
- Goal-oriented and delivers outcomes.
- Ability to challenge the status quo and compete to win.
- Superior technical knowledge and sound decision-making and analytical skills
This role will have a Hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$60,160 - $90,240
