The Hartford's Data, AI, and Analytics (DAO) has a goal to achieve greater business value through the use of data by simplifying the architecture, standardizing process & tools, and building a data culture across the enterprise.
Data Governance and Stewardship is critical to our Data Strategy. The Data Governance Office is seeking a Data Governance Product Manager to reimagine and modernize Data Governance & Stewardship practices. You will help the organization become more data driven by establishing human-centric, modern data governance practices and work as an ambassador across the enterprise driving adoption.

This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in an office location (Hartford, CT; Chicago, IL; Columbus, OH; and Charlotte, NC) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).
Responsibilities:
- Create and execute the Data Governance Program roadmap, by establishing human-centric, modern data governance practices, inclusive of metadata management, lineage, glossaries, mapping, quality rules & standardization, and more. Prioritizes the customer experience in all facets of data governance and collects feedback and Voice of Customer to continually refine
- Act as a data governance ambassador, serving as a liaison between all business stakeholders, technical teams/data producers, data stewards, and data consumers to protect and promote data use
- Lead adoption of the enterprise data governance tooling and practices and monitor progress via KPIs
- Partner with business areas, technology teams, Data privacy and others to create product roadmap for the enterprise data catalog and works with team, both Hartford and vendor team to implement features, via agile methodology
- Establish best practices for federated Data Governance Stewardship, councils and drive consistency in approach across the enterprise. When necessary, facilitates cross-enterprise collaboration to support data agendas and strategy
- Work closely with Data Governance tooling vendor on tracking issues and enhancements to resolution.
- Educate on the federated data stewardship model and accountabilities. Partner across the enterprise to identify, coordinate, and engage with data stewards and internal partner organizations to drive data governance outcomes and manage data
- Engage and coordinate with stakeholders; proactively champions the value of data as a strategic business asset and promotes governance practices in relation to this.
- Communicate early and often about status of data governance program and be committed to increasing the data literacy across the enterprise
- Support all users as they learn data; and provides user support for data governance tools
- Leverage both business and technical understanding of the enterprise data governance tooling to build end-user adoption
- Promote participation and buy-in from business and IT areas for data governance activities
- Analyze business processes and have deep understanding of the impact data has on business processes and outcomes and creates training programs to upskill others
- Help establish best practices in data quality standards
- Continuously study data governance best practices and bring in outside; modern views to help evolve transformation and keep up with the pace of change
- May have direct reports, help find and hire new talent, and work with multiple vendor partners.
Qualifications
- Candidates must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. The company will not support the STEM OPT I-983 Training Plan endorsement for this position.
- Bachelor's degree with at least 7+ years of experience in some combination of both data governance and data analysis, with a minimum of 2 years in data governance
- Exceptional trouble-shooting and critical thinking skills. Ability to provide options and articulate the business and productivity implications of different technical solutions
- Excellent understanding of the daily life of ETL and Analytics teammates, so that coaching and solutions can be targeted to their needs
- The ability to plan, set priorities, and manage a backlog in environments of high uncertainty
- Has a passion for helping the organization become more data driven
- Demonstrates empathy for others in helping them do their jobs better, more efficiently
- Strong written and verbal communication to interact effectively with both technical and nontechnical users at all levels of the organization, from senior executives to developers. Ability to context switch and translate between highly technical discussions and what matters to non-technical business users
- Prior experience in training others and excels at the art of storytelling
- Proven track record of change management & influencing skills within a matrix environment
- Dedication to achieving true and lasting agreement when decisions are made
- Experience driving awareness of new approaches and industry trends with respect to Data Governance and end-to-end process management
- Knowledge of insurance and how business needs translate to data and technology needs
- Experience with data quality & GenAI
- Comfortable working in a matrixed environment; federated governance model
- Knowledge of Agile Scrum/SAFE methodology
- Effectively use collaboration tools like Rally, Jira etc.
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$136,800 - $205,200
