Claims IT is looking for a Director of Software Engineering with Guidewire ClaimCenter experience to drive engineering excellence to deliver critical innovative solutions in the Digital Value Stream. The Engineering lead will support successful delivery of a multi-million-dollar roadmap in Claims Digital Assets supporting P&C with a focus on Auto and Property transformation. This includes applying scaled agile processes and modern software engineering practices for new invest and maintenance for the full lifecycle of applications supporting this business function. This role will have a Hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of working in an office location (Hartford and Charlotte, NC) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Accountable for end -to-end product delivery of large-scale software products, with the ability to lead/collaborate across multiple teams & release trains working on complex applications & platforms. Inspires and coaches engineering managers and team members.
  • Ability to balance risk with time to market goals.
  • Develops strong relationships with business partners and can anticipate business needs and influence strategy, architecture, and platform decisions.
  • Provides significant input to influence infrastructure and architecture roadmaps across product teams.
  • Demonstrates technical and business acumen to support the line of business.
  • Ability to articulate technology solutions with senior leaders and influence decisions.
  • Establishes partnerships with key stake holders across the organization to promote Software engineering culture.
  • Acts as a champion for promoting the adaption of software engineering standards and guidelines across delivery teams.
  • Challenges teams for continuous improvement ideas and supports the team for implementation.
  • Takes ownership to drive innovation for effectively leveraging technology to solve the customer problem.
  • Collaborates with teams to support community engagement practices.
  • Has a passion for continuous learning to stay current with relevant technology trends, experiment and learn new technologies, participate in internal technology communities.

Qualifications:

  • 10 or more years of experience in application software solution development along with managing software engineering teams.
  • Strategic planning, process analysis and execution skills for introducing evolving architecture-based solutions like Cloud, SaaS, and new UI frameworks.
  • Must have Guidewire ClaimCenter experience.
  • Must be AWS Cloud Practitioner Certified
  • Business and technology expertise to assess, deliberate and influence architectural decisions.
  • Evaluate, recommend, and influence procurement decisions for tools and frameworks for effective delivery.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve across the technology stacks and/or across multiple lines of business.
  • Competent with most of the skills at a Principal software engineer level.
  • Build effective relationships with business and IT leaders.
  • Ability to provide concise, transparent communications about potential risks, mitigations, and business impacts in a timely manner.
  • Ability to understand technology trade off risks and rewards for the best customer value delivery.
  • Inspire teams for continuous learning.
  • Takes ownership to drive continuous improvements in delivery.
  • Continuously learn, support others, and encourage them to learn more.
  • Support innovation and motivate those around.
  • Collaboration with teams to identify opportunities for integration across tools used in the life cycle, including agile, test automation, platform configuration management, project management and drive efficiencies.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$166,560 - $249,840
