Who We Are

At Kyndryl, we design, build, manage and modernize the mission-critical technology systems that the world depends on every day. So why work at Kyndryl? We are always moving forward - always pushing ourselves to go further in our efforts to build a more equitable, inclusive world for our employees, our customers and our communities.

The Role

Skytap, a Kyndryl Company is a global Infrastructure as a Service, deployed across 9 Microsoft Azure and 6 IBM regions with 7 new Azure regions on the way. Skytap's enterprise customers are driven by a need to migrate and modernize their traditional systems in the public cloud. Skytap's service runs complex enterprise systems in the public cloud without risky refactoring or re-platforming. Our customers benefit from cloud consumption economics and increased innovation by integrating their traditional systems with modern cloud-native services like data analytics and AI.

At our core is the ability to import and run IBM Power systems such as IBM i, AIX, and Linux and their dependent x86 workloads natively in the public cloud. We are the only cloud service that delivers on-demand virtualized IBM Power LPARs and x86 VMs in Azure and IBM cloud data centers. Our software platform turns raw infrastructure provided by our cloud partners into a secure, self-service, multi-tenant IaaS. For example, an Azure customer using the Skytap service can deploy an IBM i instance in seconds, connect it to an Azure data service, run experiments, delete the entire stack an hour later, and pay for the usage with existing Azure financial commitments.

Our software is a modern container-based platform with a SaaS control-plane and software-defined network, storage, and compute data-planes. Skytap operates this platform to meet the needs of the most demanding enterprise workloads and is experiencing phenomenal growth driven by accelerating cloud migration.

We are seeking a technology and engineering leader to run our Cloud Platform and report to our CPTO. This pivotal role will drive the evolution of our distributed system to support next-generation requirements for Scalability, Reliability, Availability, and Serviceability. The role requires a hands-on approach with technical depth to identify gaps, find pragmatic solutions, and drive the delivery and scaling of the frameworks that all of our services depend on. The successful candidate will work closely with product management and engineering to advance both Skytap's technical platform and organizational capabilities.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Lead the evolution of Skytap's common platform capabilities to support the needs of our growing service. Your direct customers will be Skytap's own engineering teams who depend on your work to build robust scalable services.
  • Lead architectural strategy across all aspects of the cloud platform in support of scalability, reliability, availability and serviceability
  • Develop tactical strategies and long term roadmaps in all architecture disciplines to meet business goals and identify risk scenarios and mitigation plans.
  • Collaborate with other architects to define and maintain the platform architecture framework and ensure integration between functional units.
  • Bring an entrepreneurial spirit and passion for all things technology, and the ability to balance business needs with technical advances.
  • Provide technical leadership for Engineers and Architects across Skytap.
  • Manage teams and processes to drive platform initiatives across engineering

Who You Are

Your Qualifications:

  • Strong foundation in computer science with core competencies in cloud, distributed applications, software defined compute, networking and storage.
  • Experience in designing and developing large scale cloud platforms and distributed applications.
  • Has a successful track record of leading platforms and frameworks for global scale cloud projects and enterprise applications across design, software development, and service reliability to achieve outcomes
  • Strong team building and leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate remote employees
  • Experience with specialized enterprise applications including Power/RISC based systems is a plus
